|
|
We've recently gone from having a DDR-USA, to an Extreme (after almost a year of awaiting something better). The NFLDDR crew, were rather suprised, jumped on the machine and started playing all the new songs that they've been dying to play.
However, the n00bs that only knew of USA have found the EX interface rather complex (going from 26 songs to over 230 is a bit of a shock to them). In fact, many have complained saying they want the old machine back (then again... the difficulty was for some reason at 7!).
Now, put yourself in my place: Would you really want to give up an EX for a USA? So, I decided to make an FAQ to go onside of the machine, and I'd like a bit of help from other locations that have gone from a USA to an EX (trust me, the NFLDDR Crew does NOT want to lose this machine now that we have it).
Basically, this is what the FAQ is currently covering:
* How to get to the songs on DDR USA
* Freeze arrows
* The difficulties
* Groove Radar & Foot Ratings
* Arrow Modifiers
* Non-stop courses & Oni courses
* Extra Stages
Is there anything I'm missing here?

Beginner mode, for one... Hmm...
Overall song selection would be good (it took me forever to figure out how to switch to the different lists back in Max2. I would cover that). I'd also tell them about the modifiers stuff(I.E. how to get them, what they do). Other than that, looks good. _________________

Almost forgot about that one. I'll add it under "Difficulties" then.
Edit: Also, what is the order of the modifiers in the selection screen? |

I believe it goes like this:
Row 1: speed- 1x 1.5x 2x 3x 5x 8x
Row 2: boost- on off
Row 3: Appearence- normal hidden sudden stealth
Row 4: Turn- normal left right mirror shuffle
Row 5: Other- Normal little flat solo dark
Row 6: (forgot header)- Standard Reverse
Row 7: Freeze arrows- on off
exit
Am i missing anything? |

Thanks, that helps out.
And, I'm having a bit of trouble trying to explain what the groove radar represents, in n00b terms. |

Also, don't forget to let them know how to change from the first song order, to Alphabetical order, or Mix mode... you know, 2nd, 3rd, and so on... Heh, shoulda seen me when someone showed me how to do that, I was amazed... and I went from USA Mix to Extreme. _________________

also, beginner mode is not selectable on double mode, and will not appear in the menu in double mode at all. Oni will appear in the line, but will be blacked out and not selectable unless the selected song has oni steps in all modes. _________________

Make sure to include a bit about there not being challenge steps for every song. Regulars at the arcade here try to select oni steps for every song that they play, and it's rather irritating. _________________

Just simply say that the groove radar is a scale of how hard a song is.
The scales are:
Voltage - Peak density of the song
Stream - How densely the steps are put out throughout the song
Chaos - Irregularity of steps (Example, BaG on heavy)
Freeze - Amount of freezes in the song
Air - Jumps (Example, right-left, up-down...Max Unlimited Standard/Trick has a lot of Air.)
And instead of displaying all those information like a bar graph, they are lined up like spikes. Connecting all the points and you get a pentagon.
For rows 6 with the standard and reverse, I believe that it is labeled "scroll." |

just an overal explenation of the interface differences, put up some hardware spex comparison with DDRUSA to make them think its totally cool even know they dont understand a word of it. have it say dont be afraid to try a new song, start off with the older songs then go on to freeze.
explain the difficultyness of the feat _________________
