Ok, I know this is not the place to post this, since this forum is no longer the 'DDR at home' forum, but there is really no place to post questions regarding the technicalities of a DDR arcade machine, so I posted this here.

I am considering purchasing a Solo 4th Mix machine and upgrading it. Channel beat has a 4th Solo-to-7th mix upgrade for $900.
I have a few questions:
First and foremost, a 7th mix on a solo machine would be the same as a regular 7th mix right?

2nd, and most noobish but I want to be absolutely sure: You don't have to play with 6 arrows on a Solo machine, plain old 4 arrows is also possible, right?

3rd: Is there any Extreme upgrade, or is 7th the only one?

4th: I have heard that the Solo pads and sensors are built differently than on regular DDR machines, is this true, and how so? (I know about the tilted bar, I just really want to know if the pads are as good as the regular ones)

Thanks in advance fer any help I get. It's so far either between this or a Pump it Up DX with all the upgrades. I've never played Pump (maybe I'll try next time I go to an arcade and see how I like it) so I'm leaning towards this.

Mods: Sorry again for posting this here, but there is no other place to post stuff like this, and this is the closest match.

Actually, DDR Chit Chat will work the best.

So we move one there, and lock the other you made.

This one we move.

The machine guide in this very site wrote:
Solo DDR systems seem to be appearing on E-bay quite regularly now. A good idea if you're looking for the DDR experience but don't have the room to stick a full size machine or the money to purchase one. They offer the regular four panel experience and six panel play; even three panel play in the case of Solo 2000. There are two basic versions of the cabinet; the standard configuration and the "Deluxe" configuration. If given a choice, the deluxe is the one to purchase, since it comes with a trick bar and raised stage. The standard version is a simple pad that rests on the floor and just doesn't feel right to most DDR players.

Well, other than the obvious things, yeah. DEFINITELY NOTE that the 7th Mix upgrade is a hack and thus *very* bootleg, and it could wreck the machine. I'm sure that ChannelBeat knows this, and so you should check their warranty/returns policy before you consider this.

As was said above, the Solo series of games allows you to play 3-panel, 4-panel, and 6-panel. If you do the 7th Mix upgrade, however, you will *only* be able to play 4-panel, since 7th Mix was never intended to be used on a Solo machine.

To my knowledge, the 7th Mix upgrade is a fluke that someone got to work. I don't know if anyone's working on hacking an Extreme upgrade, but I kind of doubt it exists yet, if it ever will.

See above. Deluxe cabinets have real pads, whereas the standard Solo cabinets have comparatively thin pads.
