BNS single parallel port adapter not working for me

I ordered one of those inexpensive BNS PC->parallel port adapters to use with a pelican wireless dance pad in DWI on a laptop running Windows 98SE. It isn't working. I suspect the problem might be with the driver or configuration. The driver I used was DirectPad Pro 5.0. The install process seemed to go smoothly, but at the end of the day the game just doesn't recongize input from the pad. Can anyone help??

did you already configure the arrows on the pad to dwi? if you have and thats not the problem, I suspect that it's the adaptor, considering I haven't really heard anything good coming from that adaptor....

You mean in the game? No, I can't because it won't recognize input from the pad, period.

Yeah I suppose there's nothing to do but get another adapter. The FAQ thread on this forum said that "BNS parallel converters work GREAT", but I guess that was an overstatement.
