I find it generally easier to play some songs (if not most songs) with either X1.5 or X2...maybe that's just my play style who knows. All the arrows are so much easier to see riiight.gif What you people generally do? Do people at your arcades look down apon people who play with an increased speed? Let's hear some opinions laugh.gif

I tend to play a song on 1.5x once or twice to get an idea of the pattern and steps and whatnot. I try not to play with speed modifiers once i think i have the pattern down but most of the time i end up giving in. If im going after catas or something i play them at normal speed because i figure they were given the highest rating due to their patterns. The speed mods kind of spoil the challenge (see My Summer Love).

Ok.. if you look at the stepchart for MSL.. first its 100bpm. Second the whole reason the song is a 9 is because of the shuffling pattern in the middle of the song which at 100 bpm is difficult to read. If you put up the speed to like 2x or 3x it spreads them out so its easier to read the pattern. So basically you are taking all the challenge out of it.

Same with BAG, if you play that song with a speed mod. it just makes it easier, but on faster songs speed mods make it harder.

Generally, I abstain from using modifiers... playing orion .78 am~euro mix on konamix where there were no mods kind of got me used to reading 1/16th notes... bag is another story... JJR from 3rd mix was good for the learning of random patterns...

I play with speed mods to increase my perfect count... helps ALOT... i generally try to get the arrows to scroll at roughly 250-300 bpm... that's where I'm comfortable at.

Ok, first off, remember I've only played Extreme once! What exactly are the speed mods for? What do they do? E7.gif

Speed mods space the arrows out farther for an easier way to read them.

I genenrally play everything at 2x speed, although some stuff I'll play at normal speed(e.g. maxes or something really slow like bag). Although, I can do the maxes with speed mods (1.5x reverse). Although, strangely sometimes I can do slightly better on songs w/o speeds mods. Like on So Deep my great total is slightly less on 1x speed compared to 2x speed(although both were AA's). I don't know why though, because most stuff is usually easier for me to see with speed mods.

Maybe I should play Bag with speed mods. I've only fc'ed it on 1x(87 greats), but I'm sure I could AA it with speed mods. Then I can have three 10 footers AA'ed(counting Max300 and Sakura) laugh.gif

Where I play just about everybody plays with speed mods, so its not looked down on at all.

Today I had a revelation. 1.5x is your friend. Using it, my PA went up and difficult patterns(tears, leading cyber) became readable.

The only song I will never use a speed mod on for any purpose is Bag. I like the song too much to deface it by using a mod.

I don't play with speed mods for several reasons.

a) Often, speed mods just make the song harder for me. I differentiate rhythms by arrow color, not spacing, so spacing out the arrows just gives me less time to read.
b) If they do make the songs easier (like bag, My Summer Love, etc.), then I leave 'em on 1x, just to challenge myself.
c) I want to be adjusted to PA songs at any BPM (from 65 to 333... and the occasional 35 when playing SOtR) for oni mode.
d) I'm lazy and I don't want to pick a new speedmod for every new song I choose. E10.gif

Rancid pretty much summed up why I don't/won't use them either E15.gif

They make songs generally easier to PA (Why is this?) and I don't want that E1.gif

That makes no sense at all. That's like entering a bowling tournament, putting your 16 lb. reactive urethane ball in your car and using a 12 lb. cheap plastic ball, cause it makes the game more difficult. The object is to win E15.gif

I try to keep the scroll in the 300 range, up to 400 is all right. I'll use mods sparingly though..only when i'm trying to PA. When i'm trying to pass first time, i use 1x to make it more of an accomplishment. I'll use 1.5 and 2x, usually not 3x though. Oh and boost and solo, they are your friends E1.gif I can PA Xenon for example 3x better with 2x and solo than i can with no mods.

I usually play with spped mods when I am tryna FC/AA a Heavy song. I will never put speed mods on anything over 200bpm or up. I use it to work on my PA and to space out the arrows so I can read them. Like Bag, JJR, etx...

Probably because you were listening to the music on x1 instead of watching the arrows.

Just a thought.

On slow songs, it's cheap, but it's the only way i can pass them. I need 2X on My Summer Love. On any other speed I will fail miserably.

Okay then why is it you ask a person why they use speed mods they always say "I don't HAVE to use them but I do because I PA XX% better?" E19.gif
