THREE times this week I've run into this weird problem so now I'm asking DDR guys here, What am I supposed to do?! What am I doing wrong... E19.gif

Here's the deal:
If somebody's just standing by the machine when it's my turn, I'll ask if they wanna play with me instead of waiting to play alone. (especially if it's a cute guy). Sometimes they no and that's fine, but if they say yeah, then I always offer for them to pick the songs. But the guys here ALWAYS try to be too cool and say "Nah, you pick, I can do whateva!"

Four songs later, in short-- the result EVERY time this week was that I got AA or A and he either
1. made up crazy excuses why he failed...
2. walked off and never spoke to me again...
3. got a little circle of friends to block off the machine (each putting up coins for each other so even though I was there first, I couldn't play at all for an hour while they C'ed Maxx Unlimited Light 16 times in a row... seriously. four guys, four stages each)... boom.gif

So question is: what is proper DDR ettiquette for when you AA a song that your opponent/partner flat E's? With my friends we all can joke about it, because they've seen me fail songs too, but that doesn't work at this new arcade I go to since no one knows me.

I don't want to say something like "Sure you just failed Healing Vision, the Easy Mix-- but I still think you're cute! riiight.gif "... but I almost did for lack of anything else to say!
What does a DDR guy wanna hear?

Pfft. I dun care if I fail. I honestly don't. I'll actually turn around and compliment my... err... dance partner, woman or man.

I felt really bad when I beat this girl once in a tourney... I felt soo bad for some reason. But now we're great friends. That was random. I apologize.

But DDR Guys shouldn't get all offended like that... at least I don;t. E19.gif

I wouldn't care if I got beaten by a girl, especially if she was a hottie. E13.gif

I always let the girl pick the song, not becase I'm trying to be cool or anything, I just try to be a gentleman! riiight.gif

Also because everytime I pick a song the girl says it's to hard (NY, not many serious female players) E15.gif

Maybe they were really suprised to see a girl that good in ddr, and they were ashamed of getting beat. Thats nonsense though, its just a game, theres no reason to resent anyone who's better then you.

and........ if you're looking for a b/f, I suggest going above and beyond the arcade...

What does a ddr guy want to hear?

How bout the truth

It wouldn't bother me in the least if you passed a song I failed miserably. In fact, I'd HOPE you'd pass it; it would give me the opportunity to play a level higher than I'm accustomed to for the practice, though I'd definitely forewarn you in advance I was going to do that E1.gif (And would let you pick the songs too as that would give me the opportunity to add to the repertoire as well)

Guess some people feel threatened when someone beats them. Chances are you wouldn't want to know them better anyway if they treat you like that, even if you think they're cute

And honestly, I'd be more interested in getting the young woman's name and number if this were to happen to me laugh.gif E15.gif

ha ha ha, I think that's good advice but I never lied to these guys. I just said "wanna play?" riiight.gif (also note those four letters are NOT interchangable)

this whole thing only struck me as weird because EVERY guy I've met in this area has acted this way. (I'm visiting with a friend in SO CA)

also I'm not looking for a boyfriend, but since I'm away from my hometown and surrounded by people I don't know, I'd rather not be offending people by asking them to play a game. The girls I meet here are really friendly but I don't want guys here to think I'm insulting them when really I like to play with anybody... ya know? E1.gif

If someone fails a song, I never say anything to them. In fact, unless I know them, I probably won't play with them again because people who fail songs usually aren't going to keep you on beat or motivated to get better scores.

I always acknowledge if I get my buttocks handed to me. If the guy is cool/has a good sense of humor he'll agree and laugh it off and forget about it totally by the next day. If the guy is nervous or a show off, he'll do what you mentioned (walk away, say nothing, grumble, etc).

Playing hard songs (MaxX Heavy) with someone you KNOW can pass it is good because it allows you to practice the whole song without worrying about failure.

And also, whenever someone plays with me and they tell me I can pick/they can pick/whatever, the standard thing to do around here is to make sure with them that it's ok.

I'm in Anchorage, by the way.

And no, we are not "omgz tEh GhEt0o!111!!" (unless you're at space station) or an icebox (unless you go to Barrow, in wich case god help you, for both considering going there, and for being stupid enough to actually go there for real).

hrmmmm... I usually let the other person choose if i know they arent as good as I am. but otherwise I'l just take turns choosing songs back and forth so we each get 2 songs of our choice.

If I do play with someone who is better than me (although I never really do)...It usually motivates me to play better and sometimes it can be ok =/

i have sort of the opposite thing. i usually prefer to play by myself, but if someone offers to let me play with them to get ahead in line, i'll take it. i always let them pick all the songs, and if they choose something easy i just load on 5 or 6 modifiers or somethin E13.gif

Well what most guys here would want in your situation is attention. Heck if ur a good looking gal , guys can get intimidated. Not cuz u play better, but cuz ur sexy, cute , fine etc. Basically if u want the guys attention, talk to him. Say something like how long u been playing or comment on his playing. When its over, thank him and continue talking to the fella. Many guys would like a girl approaching them so if u give him enoguh attention, then hes all yours. Same goes for all u guys out there, quick conversate with the gals and u can score the 7 digits.

Ok, as most of you already know, i'm not a guy, but I kinda wanted to hear the responses as well. But what Gunnery Sgt. Rythm & Police said, is in a way true. I was talking to someone at a DDR machine once, but we didn't trade phone numbers. We DID however trade e-mail addresses and s/n's so we could talk. Now, we're talking about going to play DDR again, because I've asked him to help me improve my skills. Now, we MIGHT exchange numbers one day, when I get to know him better. But right now, a great friendship is forming! Although, myself, I don't really need to find a boyfriend, as you all know.

Now, this guy might've just been friendly because I royally SUCK at this game (really, I do), but still, he was a nice guy, and if you go to the arcade at the right time, and you're there for a few hours at a time, I'm sure you'll find some people who aren't totaly jerk-offs like those other guys, Makoto. You're pretty, talented, and really nice, so you would deserve better friends and a better boyfriend than people who act like that. E7.gif

I prefer to pick the song every other song. That way both players get a fair chance.
