The ion pad is definitely not worth it. They sell them on DDRGame which is known for cheap pads that will break after a week.
Don't bother with the Blueshark if you are in the US - they aren't getting them any time soon.
My suggestion would be to go for a cobalt flux (google it). They are pretty good pads, you can drive SUVs over them and they will still work fine. |

I have played on a cobalt flux before, even owned one for a few days before a certain bemani controller maker basically stole it from me. One big thing for me is the bar, and another is the thickness. I do not like how thin the Cobalt flux is and I am not looking to get that pad again. |

1st pad
$250 if you're just looking for a good pad that isn't really that good.
$300 if you're good with electronics and know how to mod it right; you can make a $2000 pad out of this with $50 worth of additional materials if you know how.
$180 if you're actually looking for something worth what you pay for. You can probably build a better pad if you're a midget retarded paraplegic smurf with a hernia for less though.
2nd pad
Don't even bother. If you want a crappy pad, get one on ebay for $80. _________________

What kind of mods would I have to make to make the tapeswitch pad better? |

Seconded. Please inform us n00bs exactly what to do. Which pad is best to start with for moding. "1st one"? You mean the iON? Is there a DIY walk-through somewhere for modding? Could you write us one?
Thanks!

Replace the panels with lexan, replace the bar with one that will hold more then half your weight, and replace the Control box with one that plugs into USB. That's pretty much all you have to do with one of those to have a good pad, if they actually have tapeswitches in them. If they don't actually have tapeswitches in them, you can buy tapeswitches or you can just use Matrlx's sensor design which works just as well with a longer lifespan.
It's amazing what a little modding can do, and if you can build your own pad, no other pad on the market is worth what it costs. (except maybe a beatgear) _________________
