Its not on and no wonder they are making more money !

Went down to Nottingham Tenpin (uk) to play on there Euromix 2 and when playing a song i missed only couple of steps and my life bar went stright down !!!! and ended the song.

It was ok couple of months ago and now they have changed it.. just to make more money.

Dance Machines everywhere are going to be like this so they can make more money out of us

*dont remove this topic because im making a point to others*

Some already are. It sucks, but if you don't like it, either protest to the arcade manager or get better at the game.

Honestly, you probably should have just started a thread in your regional boards (or post in an already existing thread there) to warn people about that particular machine. Not everyone in Chit-Chat goes to that specific arcade, so most people aren't going to care in the least.

It's probably one of the settings for the machine. I'd just complain to the arcade owner.

It is. It's the difficulty, and it serves the same purpose as the difficulty setting on the home versions. The higher the difficulty, the slower your your life increases for correct arrows and the faster it bottoms out for mistakes.

The default setting is 4 (out of a maximum of 8), but some arcade managers will tip the difficulty up just a bit to get players to fail faster.

Not just that, but I've also noticed the number of songs can be adjusted, as well as the time selection allowed.

And probably a whole lot more.

lol english ppl

Also, life difficulties vary a bit from mix to mix in my personal experience. A SuperNOVA I used to play on was always set to life difficulty 6, but it seemed noticeably more forgiving than the life difficulty 4 setting on the Extreme machine at the same arcade. This might be due to the difference in how dance points were handled in SN versus Extreme, with SN misses only being -2 DP and Extreme misses being -10 DP.

Dance points have nothing to do with the lifebar. On SN, Good, Almost and Boo all count as 0 DP (or 2 DP missed) while Good doesn't cause the lifebar to drop - while Almost and Boo do.

Yeah, good point. Though all three NCs are -2 DP in SN, goods don't drop the life bar. What I was thinking though is that I'm certain misses in Extreme cause more lifebar loss than misses in SN. Like I said, it was way easier to fail on this arcade's life 4 Extreme than on its life 6 SN. It almost seems like a correlation between DP and the lifebar...but the non-penalty nature of goods kinda discredits that, I suppose.

Perhaps you were doing final stage on Extreme and first stage on SN? The lifebar is harsher on later stages - that's why I always attempt any new 10-footer as first stage even though I'm risking the rest of the game on it, since the lifebar is nicer and I'm much more likely to make it.

I sort of feel like that's true, but I would appreciate if you could provide a source. I'm honestly curious.

Oh yeah, I forgot about progressive life difficulty. But I don't think it was a factor. Even with that in mind, I still felt that it was easier to fail with misses in Extreme than in SN.

And 12 has a good point; I've known about progressive life difficulty for a while, but I can't remember where I learned about its validity.

You are a new member, I won't be harsh.

Anyways, This goes in the Arcade forum.

Well, to continue with this, they should remove the feature that it is impossible for someone on beginner to fail and get game over. I am a bit annoyed at arcades when I want to play ddr, theres a long line of at least light-difficulty players, and someone on beginner does some britney spears over OVER AND OVER and they refuse to fail although at one point they got a 50 fail-combo of 50 misses because their flip-flop came off.

It may not be fun for you to wait, but it makes the game more fun and friendly for beginners. Also, they only get a free pass on their first stage.

Progressive life difficulty is definitely legit. I'm not sure where you can find it spelled out, but it becomes very obvious with a little testing that you lose life faster on later stages.

Honestly,I've never even noticed progressive life whatever.
Nor have I ever heard of it.
I'm not denying it,I've just never noticed it.
