Soldering Help

I have been trying to make a homepad (riptide's design) I have so far completed it except the soldering. this is the picture of the controller I am working with...

I soldered wires and their respective grounds to the directional pad, unfortunately, the pad dosnt work, the controller still works when I press start and select, but the directional arrows do not work

Is there anything I did wrong? (sorry, I cannot provide a pic right now of my wiring)

You should do a test to make sure that it really is the controller's fault and not a misconnected connection on your arrow wells. To check that the controller is working, just touch the ground wire to the positive end of the button to see if you get a response, if not then most likely is that you misconnected a wire somewhere (possibly the ground wire). If you can provide a pic of your wiring it would be so much easier to help you.

The ground track on your controller is the one which runs along the very left of the controller then veers to the buttom towards the X,O etc buttons. The ground track touches half of the gold of each button. A good place to solder the ground wire is the large area between the left and up directional pad or on the top of the up button. Make sure you scrape off the green coating first to expose the golden track before soldering.

The other wires will be soldered to the other half of the round button contacts opposite the ground.

It looks like there may be a coating on the contacts. Try rubbing them with steel wool or a fine sandpaper. Then, test the connection with a piece of scrap wire by just bridging the connection manually. If that works, try it again with the pad. If it's still giving you issues, it's the pad.

Also, some controllers don't let you press opposite arrows at the same time. You might want to test if yours can if you have a USB adaptor if if that's a USB controller.

Ok, I figured out that it was the pad that was the defect, I had not completely soldered the wires to the screws, thanks for the help anyways
