I used to post here back around 2001 to 2003, but I can't remember my name...

Anyways just recently got back into DDR hardcore, and loving it all over again E1.gif

I think what got me back in was I played at the arcade after such a long time, I failed a third of the way through Dynamite Rave (forgot the steps), and was gasping for air I was so tired

Looked like 6 years of rust was adding up...

I honestly don't know what made me quick in the first place

I think it might have been that DDR Extreme was the newest version for like...years

Seriously, how long did it take Konami to come out with a new game?

Just seemed like the community was dying, and moving towards Guitar Hero and Rock Band (Which I followed, I can admit)

After seeing all the new versions, all I can say is...what the hell, some of these songs make Paranoia Survivor Max look mediocre

Chaos? It's just ridiculous, basically requires you to memorize when it stops

Fascination Maxx? Can people actually pass this with their feet?

To make this topic interesting, I got two questions:

1. Will North America be getting any DDR X machines, and if so, when?

2. Which song(s) are special to you? (And I don't mean just like your favorites necessarily, but songs that hold personal meaning)

--------------------------------------------------------

For me the song Turn Me On from 3rd or 4th Mix (I can't remember)It was my first time playing that mix, first time playing that song

This was when I was still on Light

I finished the song, what's my score...SS!?

Holy crap, I didn't even know what that was laugh.gif

Another song special to me is Max 300, because I trained and trained so much just to beat that song, and it felt amazing to actually pass it

Also Breakdown, makes me think of my girlfriend E15.gif

Lastly the songs I just really love include: Breakdown, Cartoon Heroes (Speedy Mix), Captain Jack (Gradale Mix), Colors, Tears, So Deep (Perfect Sphere Mix), A, and Long Train Runnin'

Feels great to be back E13.gif

Well, I guess I'll give it a go
B4U Light: The first song I ever passed
R3 (or Let Them Move): The first heavy song I attempted.
The Other Side: The first heavy song I passed
Maximizer: First boss song I passed
Chaos: The first boss song I AA'd with the controller (I still can't AA a boss song)
Tell: The song that got me into ITG
Dawn: The first ITG Expert song I passed.

I have too many favorites to list.

Cool you remember those, wish I could remember my first Heavy's and such

But yeah, what's with ITG anyways?

Just looks like a cheap knock off to me

Dunno about DDR X.

The entirety of 5th mix is special to me because it reminds me of when I started playing, haha.

ITG is a knock-off, I suppose, but it's not cheap. It's a great game and provides more challenging (and I think more technical) options than DDR. It also has support for custom songs, so you can make a stepchart to any song in the world and put it on a USB card and play it.

I recommend checking it out if you intend to play seriously (and be able to pass 10s, 11s, 12s, etc). If you wanna play mostly for fun, DDR is definitely more fun.

DDR Supernova was met with mixed reception. The DDR hardcore fans raved about it and the ITG hardcore fans snubbed it. The whole argument was centered around the 10s (especially Chaos).

People [like myself] can pass Fascination Maxx with their feet. The only ones that can do it though almost always have experience with ITG [with a few exceptions].

1. There are a few machines here in the US, but I couldn't tell you where. They should start appearing in large numbers over the summer.

2. Bu Dam - the first song I ever passed on Basic.
Dam Dariam - the first song I passed on Trick.
Turn Me On - the first song I passed on Maniac.
Freckles - my first "non 5th mix" AA.
Only You - My first SDG.
[4 years later]
Nijiiro - my first AAA.
Maxx Unlimited - my first Extra Stage pass (Max 2 Machine).

Ordinary World and Drifting Away make me think of the old-school days when passing Max 300 or Maxx Unlimited made you godly.

Welcome Back!

I'm guessing all the ITG guys where used to harder songs than DDR Extreme offered then eh?

I'm still trying to be able to pass to 10's, I always get right towards the end of the Maxes and my legs just start to give out from how tired they are, so you being able to do Fascination Maxx is pretty godly to me

I forgot to mention I never have, or never will, ever use the bar

I think that's part of my problem, but I'm ALMOST there

------------------------------------

I totally forgot about that song, Drifting Away!

One of my favorites biggrin.gif

---------------------------------------

On a random note, my local Super Nova machine STILL doesn't have Chaos unlocked!

You only have to beat Healing-D-Vision Extra Stage to do it right?

I've basically been working on that all week, I was literally 3 seconds away from passing last night

I'll feel so awesome to be the one who unlocks a song

ITG came out due to Konami not making a new DDR game for years.

It keep the scene alive IMO, as it pushed Konami to create a new DDR game in order to win a lawsuit.
(Basically Roxor who made ITG was sued by Konami, there's on old article on it in the ITG section)

ITG is pretty much the same as DDR. It is geared toward difficult songs.
It has mines (if you are stepping on the arrow they explode and you lose life)
Hands (like in pump)
Knee drops on doubles (like in pump)

No Oni/Challenge mode, instead there are marathon courses.
You have normal life, but there are many interesting mods that are turned on and off throughout the game.

I recommend checking it out if you get a chance to.
(you can also upload step mania songs on a usb and play it on ITG2 cabinets)

Some people prefer ITG, some hate it.

I like both personally E1.gif
Welcome back.

It has almost been AAAed if I'm not mistaken. And yes, a decent number of players can pass it.

You have been gone for a while a missed a lot of changes. People play 30 minute marathons with 9,500 steps, Dragonforce, and even keyboard charts (Juggernaut, Eruption, Reality have all been passed) on feet. Obviously it's not the norm, but there are people out there laugh.gif laugh.gif

But be warned about newer DDR mixes - Betson, who made the Supernova and Supernova 2 cabinets in America, created sub par cabs, at least compared to DDR Extreme machines.

And definitely check out ITG. Even if you dislike the songlist and the difficulty, you can't deny the fact that the ability to play custom songs isn't extremely fun E7.gif

Holy freaking crap, I just passed Paranoia Survivor Max!

Sorry for the outburst, but I never even came close to doing this bad in the day

I've already gotten better than I ever was E4.gif
