Although it may not be intentional, there is an "easter egg" located in DDR SuperNOVA that I had not noticed until yesterday.

I don't know if it exists in previous mixes, so I would love verification on this.

To get straight to the point, go play a normal game - choose "All songs, easy, medium, etc." Select your song and go to the options menu. Choose dark (and whatever other modifiers you use). If you look carefully when you play, the arrows at the top glow the color representing the color of what you scored for that step (green is great, yellow is perfect, white is marvelous). In normal play, the arrows WILL glow white if you hit within marvelous timing, even though you are only awarded with a perfect.

So, if you want to hone your timing even further, you can, since you know you can find marvelous timing in normal game play now!

If someone already discovered this, I apologize.

I'm pretty sure it's been this way for a while, but that might just be SM. Evem if that is new to SN I wouldn't call it an easter egg though.

Didn't this start happening when DDR introduced Dark?

See, that's the thing. I don't know.

I would love to find out if that has been around as long as dark has though.

I'm pretty sure it hasn't. Anyway, since I'm at my local SN I got a chance to investigate. Since I don't enjoy dark, I looked without it and it just might do that anyway. I didn't really look, but I think it might be green for great. It's kinda hard to tell when I'm playing though, so I'll observe as my friend goes and repost/edit.

Edit: I can't really tell. It might be but it might not be.

Here's the scoop, from what I've gathered. In the beta for Extreme AC, Konami made Marvellous's in normal gameplay. Tons of players rejected the idea, and wanted Konami to go back to Perfects being the highest step judgment. They did, but left the white flashing when you got a Marvellous, even though it didn't display as such.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but a lot of players know about this. Especially in SN, I use the glowing to check my timing.

(The flashes also become more distinct after 100 combos.)

I don't know. This topic's floated around these boards for quite a while; I was just saying I had assumed it to be fairly common knowledge by this point.

Mmhmm. Try it out, the flashes extend outside the target arrows so it's easier to see. E1.gif

It's somewhat common knowledge around here.

I'm fairly sure it started with Extreme, both AC and CS.

Yeah, most of the players I know knew about the marvelous flash. Myself and a few others use it to make sure we don't drift early or late during a song. Unless of course thats what the song does...

I never heard it mentioned before - odd.

Well, it was a new one to me.

OLC.ICNH > I really must make it flash outside the target. I can't believe that it does that!

Yeah. I pretty much thought everyone already knew about this as well.

As for me, I just try to ignore it. If I concentrate on it too much, it actually messes me up. I do better if I just concentrate on hitting the arrows to the rhythm in the step zone and ignore the color of the flash.

Besides, white and yellow are close enough together it is really hard to tell which it was as you are playing (for me anyway). On the other hand, green is pretty obvious and lets me know my timing is off (or the pad is crap).

I thought this was common knowledge, for a few years now E19.gif

Playing 6th Mix without the marvelous flash was hard as balls for a few sets, after getting used to the marvelous flash.

I guess this is why learning PA was so difficult for me. All I had to base my timing on was perfects - I didn't even analyze the flashing. Hmm, I could have shaved 3 years off my progression.

I've certainly never noticed this, but then again, I never used dark before either.

To be fair, it isn't discussed very often around here, so I can see how some may think it was something new. But whenever it is brought up, it's common knowledge to most people here.
Kind of like back when EXTREME AC was new when most of us already knew about Select Option or Sorting; it was common knowledge since it was around for two prior mixes, but on rare occasion someone here would find it a new discovery.

It's easier to tell with 100+.

I always freak out when the arrows become more yellow because I know I'm getting closer to Greats.
