I am going to be living in Stuttgart Germany for 10 months, and like hell I am going to give up DDR!
Unfortunately our apartment will be on the 2nd floor of a house.
Our neighbor below us though is suffering from significant hearing loss (an unfortunate plus).
Regardless, I was wondering if anyone has any luck with a BNS/Blue Shark Foam pad causing less shock/noise than the other pad options available; and/or if there are any mods you can apply to reduce the noise? I was thinking of maybe trying to put my karate mat underneath it?
Anyway I plan on making a purchase soon (once I do more reading here and determine which pad is better) but wanted to see if you ladies and gents could offer any advice?
Thanks,
Ken |

i've had softpads, a foam pad, and modded softpads
the modded softpads make the least amount of thumping, although a foam pad is better than an unmodded softpad _________________

Really? I assume by modded softpad you are referring to having wood underneath the pad in some way? Gah. I was hoping the foam would absorb more shock. The land lady apparently says its okay to play loud music until midnight, although DDR thumps are a whole new level Had the neighbors call the cops on me 2 years ago when I started doing doubles on my softpads attached to particle board. lol
Prior to that another neighbor came by and really thought I was a very dedicator sculptor hammering away at some new statue. rofl
I think I generate a little less noise now since those were the days of playing basic and I would really slam my feet down.

if you have foam to put under, try that (if you choose to mod)
using the bar (a chair) and/or playing on toes will drastically reduce thumping as well. _________________

I will have to point out that no matter how much padding you put in, there will almost always be a noise problem with playing DDR on any non-ground floor. But I do wish you the best of luck. _________________
