How many hours a day do the pros who compete in tournaments play DDR? To be competitive at a tournament, how many hours a week does a typical person have to play.

Also, how much money does that cost. I assume tournament players must use the arcade machines so what is it 25 cents per song now? Would you guys say that access to money plays a role in who can become a tournament level player? Can almost anyone become a tournament level player if they practice for hours and hours a day?

How do y'all feel about scores posted on home pads versus scores posted of the arcade version.

Do the players who are very good generally have more prestige within the community than players that are only ok or just starting out?

I'd appreciate it if you gave your opinion on this matter. I'm very interested and want to hear from people who are familiar with this scene.

The amount of money you pay and how many songs you get is set by the arcade operator. And the pros often practise at home with metal pads as well as the arcade.

Now I don't go to tournaments (but it's not like any are around here anyway), but I can pass Paranoia Respect on double and I don't play much anymore, so I guess it depends on uhh...your sense of rhythm or something. I dunno. I used to play a lot more.

stop using this tournament level stuff... there is no such thing as tournament level in DDR. Again you are treating this like a sport... it isn't dude, it's a rhythm video game.

Home scores are frowned upon.

i hardly even play an hour a week anymore,

i do have more prestige than you

people who are good dont play alot, they are just good.

and yes anyone could become tournemant level if they played for hours upon hours.

because its videogame, if you play any videogame for hours everyday you will be good at it. hopefully.

I don't believe that. Nor do I believe that anyone who practices the piano for hours and hours could become a concert pianist, nor do I believe that anyone who shoots hoops for hours and hours could make it in the NBA, nor do I believe that anyone who spends all day on the golf course could compete in the US Open.

DDR is like any other physical skill. Some people have more natural ability than others. And other people, no matter how much they play, will never be able to fully compensate for that lack of natural ability.

This pretty much sums it up. I also think a lot of it is just mental.

I've been playing for almost 5 years now, as pathetic as that sounds and I just passed Max 300 for the first time this summer.
It was on the extra stage and I just missed the AA. =(

I'd say that most "pros" practice for a couple hours a day, several days a week. But like other videogames, alot of people are embarrassed by how much time they spend playing games instead of doing other things, so you'll likely get some answer like "oh about a half hour a week." And we know that's entirely false.

I'm no "pro" but I have too much work during the week to even think about it, as well as the town I go to school in doesn't have DDR at all. It's only when I go home on the weekend that I get to play any, usually for about 2 hours on a Friday or Saturday.

Of that 2 hours I am by no means playing the entire duration because of downtime of other players, girlfriend wanting to go see the rabbits, etc. I spend about 5-6 dollars per evening of DDR. 30 cents for a large cup of water, the rest for mostly singles with a few doubles games. I've been playing for about 1.5 years.

To get prestige, you have be able to get SDG and AAA scores, then post a crapload of videos of you getting them on Youtube. Most people don't like homepad scores because it's "easier." Despite the timing windows, I'd say the difficulty is the same due to the fact that there is no bar, your pad slides somewhat, various distractions, and pad errors. My homepad score has always been a good indicater of my arcade score.

Nice! Can't read that reverse.

@ OP: I've been playing forever and still suck! But it's okay!

Some people just get it, others don't, but the gaps can be closed in on if you practice smartly and efficiently.

ddr stays constant.

athletic sports do not.

so, to re-iterate

if you play hours upon hours a day, you can play/win at a competeive level.
