Characters wont work

I've been trying to use characters on stepmania, i place the character folders on the, umm, characters folder. I set the character select to random, and when the song is about to start stepmania closes and i get this msg

"Model:: Could not open "": No such file or directory"

Anyone knows how i can fix this?
