Have you noticed how we translate some of the songs (like Mahou no Tobira [Magic Door], or Aoi Shoudou [Blue Impulse]), but we transliterate (written in english as how to say it in japanese) other songs (like Sakura, Daikenkai, or Mikeneko Rock)? Just something I noticed. What's with that? I mean, wouldn't be easier to have "7 Cheers For This Child" than "Konoko no nanatsu no oiwaini"? It's kool that I can learn japanese this way, but what's the point?

Some songs have cooler japanese names than english. Especially Konoko. laugh.gif

Same goes for songs like Gekkou Chou.

Well, I kinda like it that way. I guess I can see why it might get annoying, but it's kinda nice how you get to learn the real song name instead of a translated version.

Actually, they translated Mikeneko Rock to Calico Cat Rock on Ultramix 4.

Combined with watching subtitled anime, you'll be a Japanese master in no time at all.

The translating of titles seems entirely random. I'd prefer transliterations instead of translations, since that makes it easier to research song origins and locate it on other games/machines. Also, when you get things like CALICOCAT ROCK, you're suddenly not going to find the song you were looking for under M, but rather under C. Bottom line is, I'd perfer consistency in naming conventions so it's easy to find these songs.

Same thing. The point is, another previously transliterated song got translated.

Yeah, transliterations make it easier to find it's origin in a Bemani game. & some songs DO sound cooler in Japanese. What's cooler, Daikenkai or Big Opinion?

I forgot about Gekkou Chou (Moonlight Butterfly). What about Dandando(u(?))? & I remember something kagerow not meaning dragonfly or something.

Sometimes the different naming conventions probably have something to do with space constraints in the songwheel. For example, the translitteration of the Japanese title for "Tino's White Horse" (which in itself isn't the actual translation) would be too long for all the English characters to fit inside the box.

If they can smash Konoko no nanatsu no oiwaini on the songwheel, they could smash Ikareru Ooki na Shiroi Uma on there as well. Hell, it's shorter, even.

I think some things aren't translated because it doesn't really make sense, it's difficult to strictly convey the title in English; DanDanDO would literally be something like MaleMaleROAD, which is why it got the new English subtitle "The True MAN's Road."

I think an important part with SuperNOVA AC is they didn't want to have to use japanese characters at all for the songwheel, so they had all the names either americanized or the japanese names made englishized, like Konoko, Gekkou, Kagerow, Sakura, Daikenkei, etc..

But the older ones like Aoi Shoudou and Mikenko Rock got different names probably because the english names sounded a bit better. I prefer Blue Impulse simply because it sounds a lot more..Naoki'ish? laugh.gif

I think they did that because USians can take something like that & turn it into something stupid.

It wouldn't sound so weird if the song was originally labelled 'Cherry Blossom' and people had been calling it that since its release in America.

They probably just translate it to whatever sounds 'cooler', simple as that.

Either that or they figure Americans still haven't gotten over Pearl Harbor and would be pissed off if they had Japanese in their game.

It seems like the Japanese transliterations were used in earlier mixes, but the English translations of the song titles were used in the new mixes. So, The older songs are still Japanese and the new songs, and some of the older songs, for whatever reasons, are translated into English. Make sense?

No, because this is not the case.
There are new songs which are both transliterated and translated. There is no pattern to it.

Then I have to agree with the "whatever sounds better" theory. Though that might not make sense for the longer Japanese song titles. *shrug*

We should make a list of songs that got translated/transliterated.

Translated:
Mikeneko Rock (Calico Cat Rock)
Mahou no Tobira (Door Of Magic or Magic Door, either one will do)
Aoi Shoudou (Blue Impulse)
Okoreru ooki na shiroi uma (The Irritable Great White Horse, but shortened to "Tino's White Horse". BTW, Tino is the person who's on the song on Pop'n Music (from Pop'n 11))
Love Love Sugar (don't know how you say it in Japanese)

Transliterated:
Daikenkai (Big Opinion)
Sakura (Cherry Blossom)
Konoko no nanatsu no oiwaini (7 Cheers For This Child)
Gekkou Chou (Moonlight Butterfly)
Dandando(u?) (Male Male Road)
Chikara (Power/Strength)
Kagerow (shouldn't be a "u"?)
Nijiiro (Color Of Rainbow)
Kakumei (Revolution)
Ki-se-ki (Miracle)
Himawari (Sunflower)
