ohhh i totally agree on this one
although, yeah, not sure how that would really work.
we would need a deadline (say like 3 months or so?)
graded on like:
looks, responsiveness, etc...
i will have to think of other things (possibly like 2 categories..) _________________

Looks and Design- How good does it, look, does it have some cool diamond plate, LEDs and lights and neons, etc, etc. Was the design solid ad good overall?
Usability- Does it perform it's main purpose usefully? This includes durability, responsiveness, and limited downtimes.
Features- How is this unique? Is it extra strong? Does it fold up? Is it vomit-tolerant/ Does it have a bar, or some extra side dedibuttons?
Cost-Value- Was it a Blueshark-quality pad for the price of a TX? Or was it a TX quality pad for a Blueshark Price? |

I wouldn't enter with anything new, just the DJ3 design if possible. However, I think another fun pad contest would be about who could build the cheapest functioning pad. With rules of course, such as pad must be regulation size, must be able to full combo a given song, don't count cost of controller. I'll bet you could make something under $5. |

I see what you mean. Maybe it would have been better to say that the pad is able to register a step when needed and is able to hold a freeze arrow. |

perhaps, if possible, it can be made so there would be an edit to an easy song, and to full combo it you must like press UP all the time, like all the 4th notes are. |

even that is hard for some people i bet :-p
anyway, i think there should be some a couple different categories:
1) looks (coolness, design, etc)
2) functionality (how well does it work)
3) cost (cheap/expensive)
(pretty much the same as Pooing Caving said here)

but yes, we should have one
anyone think that the end of july/august sounds good also?
i say a few months, plus a couple months of summer would be great as well _________________

It's a good idea but I don't see how you could compare the pads in terms of sensitivity unless the same person was using all the pads because some players might be heavier than others so the pad would register better. I feel like the contest would be better to judge things along the lines of looks and features (buttons in bar ect.). |

I hope I don't need to say what those 25 points are; it should be obvious. |
hmmm not very obvious to me? Besides, measuring 25 points per panel brings to mind 2 words- tedious and overkill. why not like 9 points? (3x3, like the way a pad grid is laid out?)

Have 10 random people use and rate the feel of the pad on a scale of 1-100. I presume everyone here has at least 10 friends. |
....maybe not everyone. dude, I'm 30y/o. "normal" ppl my age have kids and stuff (should I invite them instead???) and don't play DDR. And, no, I'm not about to go hanging around arcades and inviting little boys over to play with my pad.....that is, ummm, creepy, in the Michael Jackson sense.

Sorry; I'm kind of compulsively accurate; I guess 9 points would do the job (5 would probably be fine, actually, but whatever)
Well, there are plenty of people in their late twenties who play, but you do have a point. I'm sure you could probably find 10 people willing to try it out though, even without creepin' on 10y/o's at an arcade. _________________

You tell him 'JSB! If 10 people saw me playing ddr i'd kick my OWN a$$
But really, I think you've come up with the most overly complicated pad judging scheme ever, especially for a contest with no rules and no prize.... I would break it down like this:
Does it work: yes or no. there really is no gray area here. a pad is either good enough, or not good enough. we'll assume that anyone who enters a pad would answer yes here, so we can skip this.
Does it look cool: post a picture and we'll be the judge.
How much does it cost: post a list of materials and we'll figure it out (to prevent people cutting costs on things they already own or found on ebay for fifty cents etc) _________________

Uh. . .
Just sayin. . .
cheap wood typically isn't good wood.
Fir Plywood's the only reliable cheap wood I've seen. _________________
