I prefer Sa-kur-ah, it just sounds better than Sa-ker-ah. _________________

I'm Caucasian (complete with a Cauc) and I admit it.
Hence I pronounce it Suh-ker-uh. _________________

Actually, I dunno how to write the pronunciation. The trick is remembering that that 'u' after the k will BARELY be pronounced. One could in theory pronounce it in two syllables as Sah-Kl/rah, and be close to correct, but not quite. . The "u" is there enough to make it 3 syllables...but barely. Meh, I'm gonna confuse myself and probably others. but yeah, it would not be a full "oo" sound for the "u". I'm not explaining it well, but I should be on the right track. _________________

Believe me, the pronunciation I posted is correct enough. It's as correct as you're going to be able to post in English, and it shouldn't be pronounced as if the 'u' was silent. As long as you're not putting emphasis on the 'u' it'll be fine. |

Oh my god.
This is pathetic.
Sa ããã
Pronounced "Sah"
Ku ããã
Pronounced "Koo"
Ra ããã
Pronounced "Rah"
And so you get ããã or æ¡
EDIT: as for the tense on each syllable, they're all the same. It's Japanese. Unlike English, their language actually makes sense. The Caucasian /sa KER a/ is complete crap. In Japanese, they don't have short vowels, long vowels, umlauts, or any of that European bullshit. They don't have pronunciations in their dictionaries because hiragana and katakana characters can only be pronounced one way. _________________

Some Japanese words require emphasis on syllables. It's not nearly as bad as English, Mandarin, Thai, etc, but they do exist. The first word that comes to my mind is 'Nashi' meaning 'pear' (or asian pear if you're a westerner), by putting emphasis on the second syllable. If you leave the word without emphasis it means 'nothing'. |

I derived my explanation from the following:
1. sakura means "cherry blossom" in Japanese.
2. the melody comes from the tradition Japanese dance, æ¡
3. It's written in Kanji, which suggests one should use the proper Japanese translation.
The reason it's pronounced wrong in Naruto is because the American anime is made by Americans based on the English translation of the manga, and it would seem that, like most narutards, the people in charge of name pronunciation don't know how to speak Japanese. _________________
