Is there any reason why Red Octane's Afterburner wouldn't work well with Stepmania?

I tried finding answers to this using Google and searching sites but nothing came up.

I can think of a pretty good reason off the top of my head, mainly BECAUSE IT SUCKS.

Not quite the response I was going for =/

It was one of the only affordable metal pads I could find with a USB jack. CF only had PS2 capable ones.

Other than it apparently sucking, is there any reason why the Afterburner wouldn't work with Stepmania?

Well, the reason i said that was because afterburners are known for acting up on stepmania, but if you know what you're doing, i doubt you will have any problems.

I may not know a lot about why Afterburner's won't work with SM, but I do know that the new CFs (the so-far good ones) have USB adaptors built into the C-Box.

Wish they would've advertised that. If they had I would've put alot more consideration into them =)

Everything i've read about afterburners acting up on Stepmania had to do with some AMD processors.

Um... even without the usb CBOX, you can still use a CF with SM with a ps2-> usb adaptor

The problem is that it's an afterburner. I hear that the easiest fix for afterburners is to throw them out, but I've never experienced an Afterburner, so I can't be sure.

I remember when the Afterburner first came out, the review on the home page of DDRFreak was actually positive. laugh.gif

Received mine on monday and have no complaints at all so far. Works flawlessly on SM for now.

Everything i've read pretty much said the same about the CF and the Afterburner. Some use, love, and live by them. Some use and hate them or have bad experiences.

EDIT: One of the main reasons a CF was out of the question was the fact that I ship out to Basic training for the military on August 1st. CF advertised taking a month to actually get the pad TO you after ordering, not to mention backups advertised on their main page, giving me only 3/4 a month tops to use it before I couldn't for a while. Wanted to get used to it before I shipped out.

The pinout of the afterburner is identical to a host of other pads. Its basically an array of 6 switches with a common ground. In the static case it appears identical to even the legendery Blueshark. However I can tell you from experience that the afterburner glitches SM, any control box I use. I can't readily explain it, but my main theories focus on stray capacitance due to maerials used for the contacts. If anyone has modded the afterburner's contacts and used it with SM, I would like to know your results.
