|
|
a few months ago, i asked what to do with my TX-1000 that was damaged in the sun by the aluminum foil melting onto the aluminum sensors. someone linked me to the sheet metal mod. i started doing it, and it does work. however, the two arrows that weren't working to begin with, still do not respond to the sheet metal , which means that the sensors aren't working. i cleaned them with brasso, a metal polish/cleaner, and all the foil that was on them is gone. i don't know anything about wiring , and i need to figure out what is wrong with these arrows. it is the down and right arrows. anyone have any ideas as to what i should look at next? |

even though you said you dont know anything about wiring, i think you should check the connections, you might have knocked a wire loosed when you were working on the sheet metal mod _________________

i have a tx1000 too. after like 1 month, one of the arrows werent working, so my dad took a look at it and one of the wires were disconnected.
youre pad probably has the same problem, i would consider looking at the wiring, the technology used behind this pad sucks, but if you just look at it, you will know how it works.
i know a lot about this particular pad, if you have any questions, just ask me. i have had a LOT of problems with it, but it still gets the job done. _________________

If I'm no mistaken, the sheet metal "mod" is just a matter of taking the foil off and replacing it with a steel sheet. (you can get an 8" x 5' roll and some snips at home depot) You can use epoxy or contact cement to stick it on. Make sure your steel sheet is FLAT, or it won't stick on as well. _________________

it talks about a copper sensor, mine was aluminum, but it makes no difference. the metal reacts to either the same way.
i'll try and take a look at all the wires. i did a little last night and it seemed OK to me, but i didn't look under the "up" arrow to see all the wires put together. the connections to the sensors seem fine, but where else could they possibly be disconnected? |

it consists of applying a custom-cut sheet of metal over the foil. the sheet is flat, it works fine. like i said, the sheet metal modding is not the issue here. it's that the sensors are not even working on two arrows to begin with. |

Actually, one of the place where I found problems with my tx1000's was the bars where they cross the wires. The bars don't conduct, but they will strip the wires, breaking the circuit. You might want to check all those. Electrical tape will fix any problems there. I'd suggest a bit of duct tape to keep the wire from rubbing the bars too. You will have to take the base off. That can be difficult. Basically, you'll need to feel up the foam until you find a bump, then scrape off the foam over the bump, and you'll hopefully get a screw. There should be 8 to 12 screws in all.
You may want to replace the baseboard with something more solid while you've got it off. A good 3/8" fir plywood board cut to size should do perfectly; your pad should feel a lot more solid. _________________
