Just as the title says, anyone know the formula SN uses to determine the score you get at the end of a song? I swear that I recall seeing it at one time, but I can't remember where. Can anyone help me out?

Perfects are worth full score.
Greats are half score.
O.K.'s are full score (again, so each freeze arrow can potentially be double score).
Everything else is worth nothing.

To determine what the vague "score" quantifier I've been using is, first, recognize that the maximum score for any song is 10,000,000. To achieve this score, one must obtain all Perfects and O.K.'s. Divide this number by the total number of steps and freeze arrows (remember jumps count as one). This is the "score" which is the value of a Perfect and O.K., and half of this is the value of a Great.

You didn't look hard enough, Suko. In the future, use the search feature. It helps.

Arctic Wolves is correct about the part of the scoring system he adressed, but as for the rest of the scoring system, I shall quote Dancing Mad's post from the above-linked topic:

Dancing Mad wrote:
I'm going to confuse matters and settle this at the same time. When I put ~ before a number, it means approximately, for those who don't know.

X = The total number of standard steps (double steps count as one) + (2 * the total number of Freeze Arrows)

Y = 10,000,000 / X

Each PERFECT is worth Y points. Each OK is worth Y*2 points. Each GREAT is worth Y/2 points. All other types of steps are worth no points. (Note: I changed this to be just a TAD bit more accurate, since this originally said each OK was the same value as a Perfect when the original X formula gave OKs a value of 2 steps)

So, your maximum possible score is 10 million.

The grades are AAA, AA, A, B, C, D, and E.

AAA = 10 million
AA = 9.5 million
A = 8.1 million
B = 6.7 million
C = 5.3 million
D = Any score lower
E = Failed song

To give an example without freezes:

Matsuri Japan Heavy/Expert:

447 steps, 0 freezes. (Y = 10,000,000 / 447 = 22371.36465)

Suppose: 410 Perfects, 25 Greats, 5 Goods, 3 Almosts, 4 Boos ( 410 + (25/2) * 22371.36465 )

Total score: ~9451901, Grade: A

Suppose: 403 Perfects, 44 Greats ( 403 + (44/2) * 22371.36465 )

Total score: ~9507829, Grade: AA

To give an example with freezes:

Firefly Heavy/Expert:

301 steps, 38 freezes. (Y = 10,000,000 / 377 = 26525.19894)

Suppose: 271 Perfects, 30 Greats, 38 OKs ( 271 + (30/2) + (38*2) * 26525.19894 )

Total score: ~9602122, Grade: AA

Suppose: 286 Perfects, 10 Greats, 4 Goods, 1 Almost, 25 OKs ( 286 + (10/2) + (25*2) * 26525.19894 )

Total score: ~9045092, Grade: A

Note how the better PA did not get a AA in BOTH cases. This is only, of course, factoring the Perfect counts as is generally done in PA.

End of story, next case!

EDIT: For all intents and purposes my math is correct in regards to scoring with freezes. In all likelyhood the game rounds decimals somewhere, as I just played through both DoLL Difficult and Expert to check my numbers. The results were still very close, relatively speaking.

that sounds right to me, but if I recall correctly, the last time I loked at the SN scoring formula, aren't steps worth more at the end of the song than at the beginning of the song?

That used to be the case with Extreme, but ever since ExtremeUS for the PS2, the scoring system on all DDR games (well, all PS2 and arcade mixes) has been that of static scoring; it doesn't matter where you are in the song, all steps are worth what they are defined to be by the scoring system.

I'd like to know why black flags keep overwriting one another as high scores on SuperNOVA.

Example: I got one great on Candy <3, saved my high score. A week later, my friend Jason got one great on Candy <3 as well and his score overwrote mine. A few days after that, I flagged it again and reclaimed the high score spot.

Also, what happens when a song is AAA'd more than once? Does the new AAA overwrite the old one, like what happens with non-AAA ties? I remember reading a post by Turbo Jjjang a while ago (on AIJ maybe) that speculated of an unseen Marvelous count factoring into tie-breaking. Could be pure speculation, but I'm just throwing it out there.
