I'm sorry if I've posted in the wrong thread (Never been to this part of the forum), but I've heard that you can make your own Pop'n controller. How much would it cost, & what are the required skills to make one? |

When I built mine a year or so ago, the raw materials ran about $100 or so, most of which went towards the set of nine pushbuttons.
It's a pretty easy project. You need some general carpentry skills - need to be able to build a box, and drill accurate holes for the button layout. You also need soldering skills to wire up the buttons to a controller. |

You can also make the buttons yourself with a couple sheets of plexiglas and a good drill.
I can't remember the homebrew button I'd designed, but those ran about $3-$4 a piece if you want them backlit.
If my memory serves me correctly, you just get a 1/4"x12"x24" plexiglas sheet, cut out 9 2.5" circles and 9 3" circles, use a dremel to make a 1/8" deep hole in the smaller one, drill a hole in the middle of the bigger one, put a couple wirse through the hole in the bigger one, put an LED in the middle of the smaller one, solder the LED to the wires in the bigger one, glue the circles together, then the rest can be done like a DDR Homebrew panel. (with different proportions, obviously) _________________

I looked for a couple minutes and found this guide:
http://www.shapermc.com/popn/popnasc.html
It looks really nice, but its not that detailed.
If i ever get good enough at pop'n i'll make my own, and pretty much wing it. |

i just finished building mine for the most part, ~90 for the buttons, 10 or so for the wood. if you dont have the tools then the cost goes up some. 30 for the holesaw, i had the rest luckily.
however i also have a question. the crappy controller that i got wont allow more than one button to be pressed at a time, so as you can tell my play is very limited this way. are there any controllers that are known to not exhibit this problem? _________________

I think that all the controllers people have been making homebrew DDR pads with have the programming to press any combination of buttons without problems. So you might want to try checking there (the homebrew thread, that is). _________________
