hey all, due to popular demand I finally got around to looking for some good anti-slip devices. I give you, the mending plate: *fanfare*

I think it's pretty obvious how this works... but you screw a few of these bad boys on the bottom of your pad and it does the rest. I just installed some on my stealth pad (one of these cut in half in each corner) and I tried pushing it across my floor and couldnt get it to budge at all. (Though I actually haven't tried playing on it yet E15.gif )

obvious caveats:
1) this is for hard pads or soft pads mounted on wood only
2) the carpet+padding needs to be at least as thick as the spikes are long, which is probably true for most houses
3) if you ever mistakenly take your pad onto a hardwood floor you are so so screwed
4) could possibly tear carpet... i'll let you know if i have any problems over the next few weeks, but I dont anticipate this will actually be a problem
5) if you store your pad by leaning it against a wall... that might also get you in trouble.
6) the spikes are very sharp, keep away from kids and make sure you never drop the pad on your foot

If you pad isnt wood maybe you could epoxy these on instead of using screws. (though then they wouldnt be removable) Or you might try velcro if you want them easily removable... experiment and tell us what works.

I spent $1.50 for two of these that I cut in half, or you could buy 4 smaller ones for about $2 (or buy more if it still slips). It took about 5 minutes to install on my pad. You can find them in the building supplies section of home depot. The part name is "simpson strong-tie MP36"

apparently no one has anything to add to this post, which seems a little strange disgust.gif
but after a few days of testing I can tell you that this does, in fact, hold the pad in place like glue, and hasnt caused any carpet tearing/damage.

EDIT*** Tried them out and must say they work amazing for me. the pad stays perfectly still through the max / paranoia songs. I use a crap carpet out in my garage so I suppose i dont have to care about it possibly ever hurting the carpet but from what i cant tell the spikes really arent any different then the clear plastic floor mats most people have under desks. i lifted up the pad after i was done and all i seen were the little indent holes as expected. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a sliding pad fix

I also didn't use the MP36's I bought 4 of the MP24's i believe it was which were only 45 cents each and those work fine for me.

Velcro works depending on the carpet. "in my case i had one of those carpets that cant use it" So I choose this and it works perfect.

i like the idea... i doubt those spikes will ever tear your carpet... since it doesn't move, it can't 'scrape' the carpet

has anyone tried just putting velcro on the bottom of a pad (the rough part obviously) to try and prevent movement? That should be safer for playing/handling than the spikes... but won't work as well i'm guessing

Pretty irrelavant but wouldn't it suck to step on one of those by accident?

I think you could probably glue the whole pad on top of a plastic thing for desks (the ones for the chairs so it rolls better than on a carpet) and cut off the edges (or for that matter you could probably try to screw it as well or just screw some pieces)

clever idea, Devout.

If anyone is looking for another less scary option, or is concerned about carpet damage (though I think that concern has been alleviated), I can offer another suggestion:

"Heavy Duty Anti-Skid Pads".
these cost 2-3 bux for a 4 pack and they are usually found near door hardware and stuff at H.D. / Lowes. They are just small rubber-like disks with a textured surface that you screw onto the bottom of your wood base at each corner.

There will be some pad minor pad readjustments required after a few songs (espec if jumpy), but it holds the pad pretty good.
