I've heard stories about colleges having DDR cabinets on campus. How/to whom would I pitch this idea? I'm sick of this campus (East Tennesse State University) being boring and stupid. Their gym would look ten times better than it does (and it IS nice) with a brand new Supernova in the corner. |

I think they consult there deans(Person in charge), get approval from them and save up money doing fundraisers and other money rasing events to pay for the machine. Give that a try. _________________

I've seen many student union buildings with game rooms (like arcades, bowling alleys, etc). _________________

Well, getting it would depend upon where you would like to see it.
If you want to see it in the gym, contact the administrator that is in charge of the gym. If in the Student Union, contact the admin office for the building, or whoever is in charge of the arcade subdivision (if there is one). They are the ones that have to budget a contract for renting a machine.
RPI used to have a machine in its games room, until it was "vandalized", and the leaser chose to cancel the contract. |

It would probably help the cause if I had several good reasons why putting a machine in the Center for Physical Activity would be a good thing.
1. People who don't normally go to the gym would now be using it.
2. Fun alternative to treadmills and bikes (especially when there's a waiting line)
3. Just plain fun recreation on campus for all to enjoy whether or not you love working out.
4. Just one more reason to stay at school Thursday night instead of going out to get drunk...we have Thursday's "Alternate Fun" program to try and keep kids of the street on party night. It's pretty lame stuff so far.
5. Extra income...for the school once the cost is covered....
They'd probably notice a marginal increase in bottle drink sales as well...

Usually, if your school has an arcade, it's cheaper for them to lease machines or get a distributor to provide arcade machines/pool tables/ping pong tables and the like. It doesn't force the school to make a long-term investment, and they still get some sort of profit off of it.
The caveat I'd have with having a distributor is that many distributors are weak about fixing their machines. With most DDR cabinets being produced from 1998 to 2003 with very few replacement parts, many distributors don't understand the need to have upkeep on their machines and that it attracts players to play on them. Case in point -- In Boston, at one point in time, both MIT and Northeastern University had DDR Extreme machines. Northeastern's machine had two dead sensors and a distributor with who didn't maintain the machine, so all the competitive arcade players who'd spend anywhere from 10-20 dollars a week went across the river to MIT's arcade, since their distributor was really in touch with the players, fixed sensors almost immediately (sometimes overnight) and kept the prices of the machines managable at 50 cents for 3 songs.
Northeastern's machine doesn't exist anymore. |

Well my school was a little foolish and removed its arcade a few semesters back. Or it could have been a few years. No one seems to know for sure. That is why I have the idea of putting it in the gym. It seems like the next most likely spot you'd find a DDR cabinent. The only places there are pool tables are in the dorms...
So distributors sometimes suck when it comes to fixing up machines. Our megamix in my hometown is always fixed overnight when there is a problem.
But having a distributor or leasing is the easiest way to go then? |

They had a machine at UCLA once. But it didn't work out at all so they took it away. |
