Build a base for the pad and then bolt a bar made of strong, plastic pipe onto it. But don't forget to give the bar some support on the back, or it will suck.

More pipes would come out the back of the bar that would then go out a little bit and then down where they'd be bolted into the base. There's pictures somewhere.

If you have welding skills, use steel or titanium.
SO much better.
And weld the support bars at a 45 degree angle to get a right isoceles triangle; that'll increase it's max weightload by A LOT.

If you don't have welding skills, take welding classes. E13.gif

I don't the exact dimensions of that baseboard, but it appears to extend about a foot/foot and a half out from the pad.

But yeah, if you are looking for a good bar setup, that is certainly one. PVC is inexpensive as well.

I don't imagine it'd be all that sturdy though.

Wooden bars work too.
But it might be hard to find the materials to build one, since wood doesn't often grow in U-shapes. ;D

Odd, I've heard that PVC is very sturdy.

There was a guy over at the Cobalt Flux forums that created a PVC bar that looked exactly the same as the ones in the pic up above (different color though) and he tested it by having his 270 lb. father sit on top of the bar (in the middle). Apparently, the PVC didn't even bend.

I dunno though, if the bonds between the pieces were weak it would probably have issues.

Hmm. . . maybe it's a sturdier PVC than what I use.

'cause I use boffers, and I'm pretty sure that none of the boffers I've used could take 270 lbs without at least bending like crazy. xP

not sure if this has been suggested before, but i was walking through the city the other day and i noticed something that looked like a ddr bar bolted to the sidewalk... it took me a minute to figure out it was supposed to be a bike rack.

A quick search online found a few companies that make single arch bike racks that could probably be turned into a ddr bar...

Check out :
http://www.madrax.com/Madrax_Catalog.pdf
for some examples (the one-loop versions of the genesis or challenger models)

That site doesnt list prices, but looking at others, you'd probably spend around $100 each... not sure how that compares to any other prefab ddr bars that are available. (Or you could hit up your local playground with a hacksaw if that's how you roll disgust.gif ) If sturdiness is an issue though, these are a solid single piece steel option that you can bolt directly to the back of your pad (assuming the pad is beefy enough to bolt to... though if you're adding any bar i guess it would have to be) Plus you can get them powder coated in your choice of colors... ooooo!!

I'd be interested to know if anyone's tried this before...

That was totally on topic! Whachu talkin' 'bout?

I was talking about using the main U as a bar and the little cross bar to hang my towel on, because 10's and 11's = sweat.

Actually, now that it's not 90 degrees on a daily basis, I don't use my towel as much.
But all summer I'd grab my towel and dry myself off every other song, and that was WITH a fan.
