EDIT: Original post was edited out with update info!
I now have the pad set up! it techinacally is a pad right now, and fully works!
Now i just need to get the 5 stationary panels in, and work on aesteticks.
You will notice how its very, very slim. WITH the base its ONLY 1 inch thick! And when done it will be a mind boggling 1.25 inches!
It works pretty, well, i did tesitng aswell!
modded controller
the switch, veyr simple, its the exact thing of what i did
a better view, notice the liberal use of ductape! i was afraid of the thin wood splitting, so i went with the ducky way.
the current version!
I feel sooo proud of my work!

so is it just using the softpad's sensor set-up?
if it is it more than likely wont work
just spend the money to build your own, or buy a real one
modding only goes so far
(or buy a cheap metal pad and mod the hell outta it..that works too) _________________

Yeah, ive decided the wiring to make the version at this site:
http://www.angelfire.com/d20/ddrhomepad/
Does anyone here know the cost to make it. Also, im like 12, but i have TONS of experience in like buildign stuff (i built a road-sled, a giant robot turtle costuem that was like 5feet by 7 feet by 5 feet, a buncha stuffs too). Im also good at soldering.
Or shoudl I jsut stick to a regular softpad, bacause im just above begginer level in DDR. I can get like AAAs in easy songs tho |

nice drawings, btw...
but anyway, since you do have experience in building stuff, why not? it's a fun project to do. besides, you have time (unlike me, at university).
it's not too hard to make a decent pad. soldering skill is a definite plus as well. |

wow, only 12 and can solder...sounds like me when 5 years ago
and ya, just build your own pad, expecially since you can solder...most people dont want to build their own for that reason
the other thing is i do NOT recommend the sheet metal contacts: use the other design with the bracket..things
not sure what they are called, but thats pretty much the *new* design that most people like
the cost is around 130 for 1 pad, but like 180 for 2 pads (so find a friend or something..or just make doubles )
and, as always, i can help if you need anythign (and you have time, like ceraf said)
take a look at the homebuilt thread for some basic tips. (and i dont mean read all 200+ pages, but ya, read some at least) _________________

Hmm...
I thought up a better idea!
Basing it on the one at the angelfire site, ill be building it to where it has first a 35x35 inch base thats 1 inch thick. Then thers gonna be 5 stationary tiles with 0.5 inch thick 10 7/8x 10 7/8 woods board with sheetmetal on top. It will be ontop a set of 0.5 inch thick planks and then onto the base.
Then, the stomp tiles will be made this way... (from top to bottom)
First, some 1/8in thick acrylic, then the arrow decal, then some 1/2 in wood, then some plastic tubing 3/8, then onto the base. Between the plastic tubing will be some metal pegs protruding out 1/8, connected to chassis ground, and a plate of metal 1/16 in thick under the wood moving part. This will create a gap of 3/16 of an inch, making it very sensitive. THe plate of metal will be connected to the cooresponding wire (up, down, left, right, etc, etc). Its heavily based on the www.angelfire.com idea, but very slimmed down |

hmm..the ground as the entire bottom. im suprised no one ever thought of that before
im not sure on the tubing, but it should work fine (ive only used weather stripping, and its tough to set up anyway)
it sounds like a good plan _________________

It depends on the pad. It's usually between one centimetre and half an inch. |

Well, apparently, EB games will; be my next destination. They have 99 cents ps1 controllers. Apperently, my controller broke on me! i tested it all out, nothing. It was all traced back to the controller. Now i have to resolder some points again. Even a simple test with a jumper wire didnt register. Oh well. |

I have a couple annoucements:
A. I got another controller, i set it up immediatly (i have a ps1 in my car), but it doesnt work! if i get another used one that doesnt work, im getting a new controller. GRRR.
B. I got all the stuff, all i need is the controller, sheetmetal, and lucite, and im done! oh, and maybe more ducttape, lol.
c. Id like to give a special thanks to Jim, who works at a Lowes in San Antonio. Hes been the one who cuts all my wood! |

i wonder why they're 99 cents =) although i wouldn't mind getting some of my own to make iidx controllers out of them.
do you have anything to fill the middle of the pad? |
