Konami's Dance! Dance! Dance! have any relation to DDR?

First here's some info on it

I got back from the Anime U.S.A convention recently and I bought this rare game called Dance! Dance! Dance! by Konami for the psone 10 bucks brand new. It was released in Japan in 98 and the gameplay is kinda like Bust A Groove..except take everything away that makes Bust A Groove great(Good characters, soundtrack, and gamplay) and replace that with dull characters, horrible music, and akward gameplay. There is a gimmic that lets you swap the game disc for your own music but it seems off beat.

There is also a RPG mode too, where you go around talking to people and of course, dance.

My question is, is this what DDR used to be until it evolved into something a whole lot better?, Hence the name Dance Dance in the title. I'm just glad Konami tried again with making a dance related game. Because D!D!D! was a flop.
