|
|
ok, so I ordered my RO AB, and it's shipping pretty well...
I've heard that polycarbonates crack up easily,
so I'm thinking of doing a Plexiglass Mod..
the question is:
1) Is there any way to do a Plexiglass mod, so that you can actually
feel the stepping as a "tak" feel? like the arcades - which are plexiglasses
If there ever is a plexiglass mod of RO AB, I would like to get some sort
of a link guideline...or even if it's not RO-AB, then just plexiglass mod would be fine. So I can switch polycarbonate panel to a Plexiglass panel.
2) Where should I get my Plexiglasses? or High-Quality (High something)
Plexiglass?
(btw, I live in Ontario, Canada, so I'm not sure about the US locations...)
Thanks for the help. =) |

Here is the eBay seller I plan I buying my panels from when I build my pads.
I recommend you get eight 12" x 12" x 1/8" sheets, and only replace the arrows, not the other buttons.
I think you'll have to cut each one down too, just so you know.
I hope that helps. ^^ _________________

thanks DancingTofu, now I have an estimated guess on what to do =)
just a quick question of the modding though...
(open to everyone including DancingTofu =P)
I've heard that the Lexan (polycarbonate) is stronger than
Acrylic Plexiglass for the panels only (Arrows only)
if I get the Lexan, then what would my dimensions be?
since Acrylic Plexiglass had 12" x 12" x 1/8"
while Lexan (polycarbonate) had 10" x 7/8" x 1/8"
I'm kinda confused with different measurements of the same arrow panels..
I'm only going to mod the arrow panels, and nothing else =P
Thanks. |

Well, you'll want to measure the panels on the AB when it comes in, but the panels should be about 11" x 11" each.
I don't know any cheap, easy ways to fuse lexan sheets, but another option if you want lexan is to order some from CobaltFlux.com. (those should be the right size, but you'll have a few extras, not that extras are a bad thing.) _________________

thanks. I'll look up into it. =)
just one last question....
what's the purpose of the "Galvanized" sheet metal?
does it have to be "galvanized"? if so, then is the purpose of doing the
sheet metal mod, for longer period of durability in case the foil rips,
or is it the better conductivity of the sensors? |

galvanized is just pretty much saying the metal has been coated, and correct me if i'm wrong, but itll conduct (BTW, aluminum flashing does NOT conduct, dont get it; get the other galvanized [or non-aluminum] flashing instead)
and the foil sucks..sheet metal doesnt really wear out at all _________________

Seriously, I cut up a root beer bottle and used it as a conductor for one of my arrows.
It's actually nice, because the panel doesn't go down as much now.
So it feels a little more like the arcade.
But only on one arrow. xD _________________

Thanks a lot. Now I understand how to, and the purpose. Thanks DancingTofu
and all the rest! |

Good luck with your AfterBurner! (you may be the first person to actually get one to work, if all goes well!) _________________

ok!! so what I've done is that I'm using AB unmodified, but bought
Cobalt Flux's Replacement Lexan Panel and the Arrow Decal Panels
so therefore it has: A Metal DDR AB Platform with Cobalt Flux Arrow Panels.
Doesn't it sound sweeeeeet? you don't have to mod like CF's =P
I just like the arcade style of that "pang" sound when you hit it =P |
