I was wondering, when someone reaches 9 points, why dont they just get their posting privileges revoked for a month, until their points total goes down a point? And maybe if they 9 again, its 3 months, and after that its banning.

Or would most people say to this "9 points gives plenty of second chances?"

It does give plenty of second chances. And actually, I know of several people here who have been allowed to come back after a ban.

It does. Like they say - the speed limit isn't a challenge. You're given the points to educate you in how the system works. You have to make at least three major infractions to get banned (unless you're REALLY asking for it), so really, if you haven't learned by the third time, you just don't care.

And warning points go away. I've probably gotten 20 or so in the past few years.

9 points is pretty damn lenient too, if you ask me.

Do people get more points for a serious offense?

What do you mean? If you mean something like posting pornography, it's usually a ban, or you'll be bumped up to 8 points, or if you're really lucky, you'll only get 3. If you mean more than 9 points, it's not really necesarry. You're banned at 9, so nothing more is needed.

I meant if points vary depending on the offense, which you pretty much answered yes.
