I'm sort of new to In The Groove, so could someone explain what's up with USB's?

Questions E1.gif :

-Are they only for storing pictures of scores? If not, what else could you do?
-How do you take the pictures?
-Where do you buy them?
-How much are they roughly?
-Do you need to install anything on the card or anything like that before you can use it at the arcade?

They also hold your scores and calories burned, as well as they can hold almost anything you can fit onto them from a computer, such as homework.
-How do you take the pictures?
If it is a dedicab press the red button at the score screen, if it is an upgraded machine press both the left and right menu buttons at the same time
-Where do you buy them?
You can buy them at most electronics store such as best buy, or radioshack
-How much are they roughly?
They cost anywhere from $15 for a 128 to $32 for a 512, or even less depending on where
-Do you need to install anything on the card or anything like that before you can use it at the arcade?
Just plug it in to the USB slots, it knows what to do[/b]

Don't forget though, the filing system must be FAT32. Or at least that's what I've heard.

VERY important note:

When buying a new USB drive, make CERTAIN that the box says "No drivers required." If it says something like "No drivers required for Win98 and up," it's still no good. You have to get one that says "No drivers required," period.

Don't forget you can also make edits for songs in the form of .SM files on your computer and take them to the arcade. Other places you can pick up USB flash drives include Target, Wal-Mart, office supply stores like Office Max, Staples, etc., and I've even been seeing them at drugstores like Walgreen's and CVS as well. There's also the internet. In terms of cost, it varies. At Newegg, the place where I got mine, they range in price from $8.50 for 128 MB to $150 for 8 GB. My flash drive is a 1 GB model that was $40 when I bought it, but now you can get a 1 GB drive for about $20+shipping there. o_o

Also, you have to keep in mind that while MOST flash drives will work with ITG2, not all of them will. This thread from elsewhere on the forum has information about USB flash compatibility as well as a link to a more complete compatibility list. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the responses guys I was pretty confused.
I'm probably just going to save some money and buy one off eBay. Could someone post a link to the best memory stick available on eBay? (One that ships to Canada.) Also, how much memory do I need? 1 GB, 2 GB....?
I'd just assume that buying one with more memory than I need just so I'll never run out of memory. You people decide for me, as I have no clue. biggrin.gif

Memory size isn't a huge issue with ITG's data. My entire ITG directory only takes up 5.78 MB on the drive, and that's with over 100 screenshots. And the screenshots are just JPGs that you can copy over to your computer, so if you start feeling like you have too many, you can back them up to your computer and clear some out. That being said, poking around eBay, I found this auction: SanDisk Cruzer Micro 512 MB. It's US$20 shipped free worldwide for a 512 MB Sandisk Cruzer Micro, which is one of the models known to work. This one has plenty of space for ITG and thousands of screenshots/edits. =) This one also has a nice capless design so you don't have to worry about dropping it and losing it at the arcade or something. If anyone has a better auction, feel free to add it. This was just something that looked good to me after a few minutes of searching.

It depends on what you want to use it for. If ALL you're using it for is ITG2, you'll need a lot less than you think. I have a Lexar JumpDrive (128MB model) I got from Wal-Mart for something like $13, and it's only used a little over 5MB with like 100 screenshots on it. Suffice to say that with as rarely as I go an arcade, even if I screenshot every song I ever pass, I won't fill it up for awhile.

If you're going to use it for other things, then yeah, I'd go a little larger, but ITG2 data doesn't take up much at all.

Yes, it's going to be used ALL for ITG 2. Nothing else.
It just seems like edits are going to be taking up a bit of space considering I'll be getting edits for almost every song.

I just don't EVER want to run out out of room, lol. I'll probably go for the 512 megabyte Sandisc Micro Cruzer memory stick off eBay. It seems like a pretty decent deal. If anyone sees a better auction, please post it. E1.gif

You don't need to get 512 mb, unless thats what you want. I have a 256 megabyte card that has both ITG1 and 2 data on it, plus about 120 screenshots and around 180 edits, and I have at least 225 mb of space left.

I also keep other things on my card too.

Speaking of edits, how do make edits without having to do it in real time? Or mabey you only have to do it that way on my itg2 ps2 bet... well THAT's another story... erm.gif
