How exactly do negative BPM's work?

They make you jump from one part of the chart to another. It jumps farther depending on what the number is. But sometimes they just make it scroll backwards. It's happened to me before >.< Anyway, you can see a good example of negative BPM's in action in Tsupseudogamush.

You never want negative bpm's in your stepfiles unless you want them to go on forever.

with my experience, sm can't read a negative bpm, and as such will skip any parts with negative bpms. you can do some fun tricks with this, such as having arrows turn into mines and steps coming out of nowhere.

a quick warning for other itg hackers: trying to play a song with a negative bpm trick on a hax cab will crash the machine.

I don't see how it could make them go on forever. Explain.

if you have a negative bpm with no positive bpm after it in the file, sm will attempt to jump forward to the next legit bpm and, since that doesn't exist, it'll essentially just keep going.

My simfile of Disconnected Zeo apparantly has negative BPMs, and I can verify this information.

Hm, maybe that's why all my negative BPM simfiles are screwed up. Thanks!

1. Go to the StepMania website

2. Go to the songs page

3. Download Tsupseudogamush

4. Install Tsupseudogamush

5. Play Tsupseudogamush

6. Stick a note to your computer screen that says "If a thread is less then a page long, read all the posts before asking a question"
