I now play 9-10's heavy and costantly wear out soft mats. I've been looking into getting a metal one but there's so many I don't know which. I don't have enough money for a Cobalt Flux, my spending cap is ~200$. Any help would be appriciated, I want something that won't break very quickly.

A lot of people seem interested in the MyMyBox Nexen found here:

http://mymybox.com/nexen.html

It looks like a pretty solid pad and I'm getting one in a few days so I'll let you know. I know you can get TX model dance pads for under $200, and I've also seen a lot of people talking about some new BNS Fusion pad as well.

That link won't load for me. Yeah, I've been looking into the TX mats. I forgot to mention I want one that'll work with stepmania so I can play on PC as well.

If you buy a PS2 mat you can always get a Trio Linker Plus, it's an adapter that lets you use PS2 controllers and such on the PC:

Hopefully that link works E13.gif

Try a TX-4000. I got mine for $165 off eBay and it comes with a USB adaptor and works on StepMania.

Yeah I know I could always get an adaptor the point is I keep wearing out soft mats really quickly. Maybe a foam one? I haven't heard too great of things about those though and Im afraid Ill break the foam and I want a more arcade feel. Everybody is like 'oh if you don't get a cobalt flux it'll break' and so on.

Eh, I'd seriously wait to see how the Nexen is before getting an Afterburner. I have an Afterburner and don't like it because the arrows are recessed too much and don't give a good rebound effect.

If you're playing mostly 9's and 10's I wouldn't get a foam pad. I bought a Red Octane Ignition 3 and the risers have all moved all over the place. I don't even play many 9's and the only 10 I play is Sakura. So if you have $200 to spend, definately get a metal pad.

Actually, I've been playing 9's and 10's on my soft pad for 6 months.

Sure, it slides 10 feet every round, it has a 3-foot gash in the bottom, the top is primarily duct tape, and I can't get better than 75% on it no matter what song I play, but it's 4 arrows to step on.

I strongly recommend you try to get that budget up from $200 to $350 and get a CF.
But if that's not by any means possible, eBay pads work about 60% of the time.
And if you can wait a year or so, I could build you an arcade-quality doubles set for $800. (shipping would be an issue with that though. . . xP)
But that's just a bit over the budget you listed, so I'm guessing that's out.

Essentially, the consesus is split between the Nexen pad and ol' reliable (CF).

I plan on buying a new metal pad with my tax refund next year. If the Nexen pad turns out as good as CF, I may get that considering its arcade-like construction. If not, then I'll go for CF.
