moving from DDR to PIU how hard is it?

I have been playing DDR for about 2 years now. I play on heavy and can beat most 9 footers easily. My question is for someone who is good at DDR. How is it moving to PIU. is it easier than for someone who has never played either, or does it make it a harder cuase you are too use to the up,left,down,right.

i tried playing it once before but it threw me way off and i couldn't do it cause I wasn’t use to the arrows that way. Now they have just got a PIU machine in my area, well not super close but like a 45 min drive from where i live, i really dont mind going to play casue i have friends who live out there, but i have the free time to go out there within the next couple of days to try it out, but i wanna know if it will be worth my time and will i beable to play on at least a standard diffculty. otherwise if im gonna be sunk down to n00b 101, ill just wait till i have a good reason to drive out there and then try it.

It shouldn't take very long at all to learn the different layout enough to play though some 5s-8s. Like Cutriss said, the notes are not colored according to their rhythm, but according to their alignment on the pad. You will probably definitely want significant speed mods (since PIU's default scroll speed feels much lower than 4-panel). The code for them *should* be on the machine, but if it's not, the code is (on the top arrows only) Left Right Left Right Center. It would be helpful to know if the place you have has Zero or not, since that interface is somewhat user-friendly (especially in letting you see the difficulties of the song beforehand). Whatever you do, you're probably going to want to stick with Hard mode for now, maybe a couple Crazy songs (Solitary, What's Goin On (if you do have a Zero)) if you're feeling up to it.

Side note for Cutriss, I assume you're talking about Beethoven Virus HD. The big thing you might notice in the higher difficulties (not like insane level) of PIU is that you are very rarely, if ever, left on the wrong foot in doing a step pattern. You may also notice, as I have, that your weight transfer during patterns is a lot more natural than in either DDR or ITG. I believe this is partly due to the stepchart designers (who apparently know how to write a lot of REALLY good charts), and partly due to the fact that, unlike 4-panel, which seems to have you motion radiate out to the sides, your motion is more focused from the outside going in. I think many would agree that it's more natural to move your legs from the outside in than from the inside out. You're correct about the jumps though, they're used rather excessively, especially in the 6-10 level.

oh yeah i keep forgetting they have one in BR, ill have to besure to check it out next time im down there. I think I might go a head and by PIU for my console and play on it to get the hang of it, and to try something new.

yea when i first tried pump back in the days i used to only think ddr was king of dance games i could only do 5's but a few months have passed and im up to 18's nightmare. Once you pass your very first crazy ur gunna just fall in love with pump and ditch DDR syn is right however the step chart makers are brilliant in pump i couldn't agree more. I believe ur first crazy should be All i want for x-mass, that has to be the easiest crazy i have ever seen. For some reason if you are having alot of trouble with pump give itg a shot it's like ddr while keeping pumps insain difficutlys and hands. BTW most of u know this but i just found out that itg was not the invention of hands piu was ;D
