OK, here's the deal with my pad. It's a TX-1501 (quote: Ninja). I've been using it for a while (maybe, 5-6 months-ish). After heavy uses and multiple fixes, it has yet another problem, and I need to fix it, but I couldn't find any symptoms. Here's my copy&pasted from another site problem:

Quote:
While I'm at it, my pad is acting like a, well, you know, once again. It's basically the same thing as last time, except I can't find any symptoms. When I press a panel down, it holds for a bit, then eventually starts to flicker out. However, although I don't think it's a panel problem, whenever I unscrew the panels and put it back on, everything starts to work again, until after 10 seconds it starts to go bad again. Funny thing is that 2 buttons work perfectly fine (up-right and right).

I've looked everywhere for a solution. I've looked at the wires underneath. Nothing broken. Looked at the panels. Nothing. I even pulled up one of the sensors of the malfunctioning arrow (real pain in the ***), and looked at the solder, which wasn't loose or broken at all. As a final resort, I'm trying to look at which sensor's wire goes into which pin hole and mapping it. One of the malfunctioning arrow DID have a connection to its appropriate hole, so I'm confused about that.

If it's a little confusing to understand, sorry, I can elaborate. Anyway, after tampering with the pads, now the panels simply don't respond.

Here are some pictures I just took:

The whole pad

Right Sensor (will be mentioned later)

I've taken the rest of the sensors, so if you for some reason need those, just ask me to post. Or manipulate the URLs. Not that hard. >_>

Now, I have a few more questions as well:

1. If I don't clean my panels off occasionally, what are the direct effects?
2. While taking pictures, I noticed dark areas on the sensors. I'm assuming those are stress fractures (I've given quite a beating to it, attempting 10 foots songs). How might those be affecting?
3. Is it possible to replace the bottom sensors? If so, can I just solder a wire onto the bottom of another square of sheet metal, or am I going to need some other fancy sensor?
4. What other problems could there be? What should I do?

Thank you for helping me.

Finally, DON'T SAY GET A CF. I'M NOT EVEN 14 YET, SO I DON'T HAVE MUCH MONEY TO BLOW OFF.

a lot of things can be causing those flickers or lack of response....probably the symptoms that you see there.

- darker areas on the panel contacts (worn out contacts)
- uncleaned panel contacts (aluminum powder everywhere)

yes, and it's recommended. i believe it's known as the "sheet metal mod", which should last eons longer than the stock panel contacts.

i'm sorry, but you should get a cf XD

jkjk...stick with your ninja

Hm. I just wish I could find that thread that told you how to make a fairly cheap pad... (couldn't find it in the Homemade Pad thread) It's cheap, but it'll work better than what I have...

Anyway, you're saying that if two pieces of normal sheet metal contact (even if they're the same type), the circuit will still work, right?

If so, is there anything I should know before soldering? As in, what type of metal would be best and what wouldn't work?

Also, if that's not what you're inferring, would it be at all possible to get the exact same type of sensors? What are they called? Where could you find them?
