1 go to a place that has songs (ex: DDR:UK)
2 register
3 go to download section
4 download via bittorrent or direct
5 Make a new folder in the /stepmania/songs file
6 put song you downloaded in it
7 rinse and repeat

when you get the folder you cant just put it in the songs file. it has to be in a category (ie: Bye Bye Baby Balloon would go in a folder called DDRMAX 6th Mix). then you can play it. i hope this helps

Your directory setup should look like this:

../Stepmania/Songs/NAME OF GROUP/NAME OF SONG/

NAME OF GROUP is where all the individual song folders go. If you group your songs with the GROUP sort, it'll display the name of the directory on the song wheel.

NAME OF SONG is the name of the song, obviously.

Let's say you downloaded Butterfly from DDR 1st Mix. Your directory setup should read:

../Stepmania/Songs/DDR 1st Mix/Butterfly/

And inside it should be files named:

Butterfly.mp3/ogg (audio file)
Butterfly.png/gif/jpg (banner image file)
Butterfly-bg.png/gif/jpg (background image file)
Butterfly.dwi/sm (steps file)

SM will read these files even if they're not named exactly, but it's good practice to have them set up this way. If the banner or bg images are missing, SM will display the theme default, but you do need the audio/steps files.

So you got your .zip file in (let's still use butterfly) C:\Program Files\StepMania\Songs\DDR1st Mix\Butterfly. Right click the .zip file and select Extract here. Once extracted, right click the .zip file again and select open with, then select choose program and look for "smpackage". Select that and the install screen will appear. Hit install then close it out and a second window will appear, but just close it out.
