I strictly remember all the hype and a statement on how Extreme was the last mix.

I havent been into DDR since 2004, I grew kind of bored and I got back into playing fighting games on a competitive/tournament level, and I just play IIDX at home casually. Only times I really play is when its in a family/gimmick arcade where I can muster a crowd of kids/parents.

I walked into my local arcade and I found a big red DDR machine called SuperNova. I instantly thought "pirate-knock off" because of the huge amount of pirated DDR's in NJ. I'm now finding out it's official.

So, what exactly rocketed out SuperNova? I'm interested, and couldnt find any old forum posts discussing why.

itg became actual competition, so konami got off their asses and tried to make a comeback.

No, Konami plan on having supernova. ITG has nothing to do with it.

Notice on the DDR EX machine it says : We Are Starting Over.

This phrase did not appear anywhere until years after Extreme was out.

Regardless, the phrase existed before In The Groove was released.

However, this isn't to say that Konami was actually pertaining to plans for a new arcade mix. They could have easily been talking specifically about the slew of console DDR games that emerged for years prior to SuperNOVA after this phrase came to life.

Despite that possibility, the phrase was still there at a time where it was just EXTREME, so I still tend to believe SuperNOVA was thought about before ITG existed. All of the new songs in the console games put together made way for a LOT of content to use to fill up a new arcade mix songlist, which would technically make all of those songs new to the DDR arcade scene. It would seem sensible, because money would be gradually made off of the console games, and then finally add more to the excitement by putting out an arcade mix with songs not eveyone may have been able to have the right console to play at home...but wished otherwise. It would also gurantee that there would be more people into DDR prior to the arcade mix, since console game after console game emerged in American/European/Japanese shelves.

Incorrect. The official decked (decked meaning all the cardboard with game info around the screen) release of DDR Extreme AC had the words "WE ARE STARTING OVER!!! <-D.D.R. Generation Next!->" on the cardboard header over the top of the screen.

(The best picture I could find of this)

http://familyfuncenter.net/extreme2.jpg

It's on all the official pictures Konami put out of DDR Extreme AC as well, not to mention on the DDR machine shown on the CD case for the Extreme soundtrack.

That phrase has been around since Extreme's inception. They completed work on Extreme, put the DDR project on hiatus and most likely decided to wait until A) they got competition for the dance game genre and/or B) the dancing game fad came back around again (as pretty much every fad in Japan does).

It was around before In The Groove was being worked on or announced, so it can be said that Konami always had every intention of bringing DDR back out at a later time.

It's kind of suspicious that they would "start over" and then do absolutely nothing new.

I liked Disney Mix. Fun times. Better than the first American PS1 DDR game, I think, despite having fewer songs. Best part: The announcer didn't bother you during songs, unlike the endlessly chattering Konamix announcer. Okay, that's not the best part, but PS1 announcers tended to talk too much.

In addition to battle mode being old, most people who play for score are not really going to care about it. Here's a question for everyone: if SuperNova had come out 6 months later (so in November or December or whenever), do you suppose Konami would've synced stuff better, maybe written some more inventive stepcharts, that kind of thing? In other words, if they spent another 6 or so months on the game, would it be better, or about the same?

Unfortunately, I think it would be about the same. Sure, they might have synced some of the songs better, but I think we'd only see a few new Oni charts, triplets would still suck, etc.

The only thing I think would have been different were more songs being synched correctly. Probably all of them, for that matter. The stepcharts, on the other hand, probably wouldn't have changed at all.

Since the syncing is the worst part of SN thus far, would it be fair to say that the game is worse than it would've been 6 months later?

Edit: I guess I can do this too to save time. If the above is fair to assume, would it also be fair to assume that if Konami is acting in the interest of releasing the highest quality product (surely more people use your product the higher quality it is) that they SHOULD have released it later (late fall/early winter, whenever it falls)?

Konami just trying to get new people a chance to play old KO songs.

So my guess is that DDR SN is almost like DDR EX arcade but with new songs and old KO songs...etc...

Oh and that tutorial that never had in any ddr mixes.

...Konami announced a long-buttocks time ago that Extreme was the very last arcade DDR mix... Konami is just scared because they know they havenothing over Roxor when it comes to the lawsuit, so they decided to bring back DDR. You say more power to Konami, but you don't realize that konami is trying to put roxor out of business...sounds like unfair competition...

and just so there isn't a huge flame-fest, yes my sig says i respect them both... I respect DDR as a game and ITG as a game. I do not however repect konami one bit. They need to grow up... /edit

Roxtor doesn't own ITG anymore. Redoine or something owns it now.

I like the Batter Mode on DDR KonamiX. that was tight!

Why did Konami keep making home versions of DDR then?

Konami knows what they're doing.

Even in the DDR EX JP Home version manual it did say : WE'RE STARTING OVER.

The Home version was released in 2003 we before ITG was out.

Sorry to tell you that but it's true.

*Grrr I sound like a Fanboy now disgust.gif
