well,

i know its pathetic but im 18 and i finally decided to start playing DDR.

i still dont know what game i should get...(but ignore this..i'll probably find out)

of course, i'll need a pad.

i dont have that much money, so i cant buy a really expensive one...(and keep in mind that i have NEVER played DDR before so i suck)

i need help on getting the best pad for about $150 MAX.

could anyone tell me?

Alright. Since you've never played, I reccomend starting off with a Konami softpad. They're great for beginners, and go for...what...$30? Also, for a game, I reccomend DDRMAX 2 for the PS2. It's got plenty of good songs, and Beginner mode, which helps beginners get the hang of the game before moving into anything harder (but don't get into the habit of putting your feet in the middle of the pad after doing a step, you will regret this in the future!). Also, when you have your game, start off with...what's it called...Practise mode, I beleive. It teaches you the basics of the game, and helps get you ready for your first time playing game mode. If you do good enough in Practise, then you might want to try starting with Light mode instead of beginner. But only if you do really good.
Alright, I hope I was helpful (and I probably wasn't).

i reccomend getting an extreme 2 bundle(with game and konami soft pad) along with max 2. Both games and the pad will last you a lot of time. once you get decent, pick up Max 1. Avoid DDR extreme, its the worst mix ever. Once your bored with that, supernova will be out. Then once your bored with supernova, its stepmania time.

Yeah start with the extreme 2 bundle. But I'm not so sure about ddr max2. ddr max 1 is better i say. But ddr extreme 2 is definately the best... if you can unlock everything

im into j-pop so my first game decision will revolve around which has the most of that and/or sounds like the arcade versions(including the super awesome "butterfly" song)...

also, how would u rate the xbox and gamecube versions...

o if you have xbox DEFINITELY GET ULTRAMIX 2!! the only problem is that your gonna need a multiplatform dance pad. Heres my idea for you.

1. Get the extreme 2 bundle.
2. (once you unlock all the songs for begginer+light)Get MAX1.
3. by now, your either gonna want a new pad or another pad so get this pad
http://www.buynshop.com/productinfo/4985/VG-DDR-ULTDX/ for the USB+xbox compatability.
4. Buy ultramix 1 and 2.

Honestly, Unlike a lot of people here, I have had a pretty good experience with my TX-1000; got it off of ebay like a year ago for $60 shipped...

I'd say MAX2 is also a good choice for a mix...or modded xbox+stepmaniax...

for consoles, they all are ok just to start out, but once u get bored of the songs...

if you have a good enough comp, just run stepmania on it (stepmaniaX, for the modded xbox, just doesnt play as well as a comp does)

just as long as u get a decent ps2/xbox --> USB adapter, its all fine

i have a 2 port xbox --> usb that i use for my ddr cabinet i made (still a WIP but it functions fine)

gamecube version is fun but most people here will say that it dosnt have exactly the most replay value (30 songs and most of them really easy) get it if you like mario or if your a compleationist but not because your expecting mad hardk0r3 ddr mario sex
