I'm a fairly advanced ddr player, but I'm just getting in to itg, could you guys recommend some songs (in either mix, 1 or 2) that would help me get better at hands and more used to avoiding mines. (plz keep them under 11 if possible, since I probably wont be able to do much over 10 feet) |

Mines - Infection, Charlene (11), Liquid Moon (9 or 10, depending on version), ROM-eo & Juli-8 (9) |

Lemmings on the Run expert for mines. Play that one a bunch and soon enough you'll learn how to properly shadow step in the middle to the rhythm of the song to avoid the "walls". This tactic definately comes in useful all around for avoiding mines. _________________

If you in fact can zip through the Max series (Max300, MaxX Unlimited, and LoM.....no need for Fascination at the moment.), than you probably have the skill to get through Charlene. Yes it is an 11, but stepwise, it is closer to a DDR 10.
Except for the 100+ mines. I believe Charlene would be a great challenge to the "New-to ITG-player". I was once in your situation and I tackled Charlene fairly quick.
If you want a crash-course in hands, try Bend Your Mind Hard. It is like a glorified tutorial. Then once you have the hang of that, play it on Expert. If you have those hands down, then play QoL.
If you want a crash course in mines, play Lemmings on the Run or Disconnected -Mobius-. Once you got thosee down, yup, play QoL.
So, if you're seeing a pattern, Queen of Light is the perfect training song for your two issues. _________________

If you are learning hands, I would recommend playing Bend Your Mind and Twilight on easier levels, then work your way up to the harder levels.
For mines, play Zodiac hard, Birdie hard, and The Message hard, then VerTex hard.
p.s. Even if it's not mentioned in the thread, to learn rolls, play Renaissance medium, then graduate to July ~euromix~. _________________

Why July ~Euromix~ Medium? He said he's fine with anything as long as it's under an 11 footer. July ~Euromix~ has plenty of rolls on Hard and Expert, as well. _________________

He was saying that the guy said he wanted under 11 feet, and you gave him a 5 footer. _________________

QoL on Medium was the first ITG song with hands that I ever played and I adjusted fine. Mines were never really a problem for me |

Bend Your Mind has hands on every difficulty. I'm not too sure about novice though; I doubt it. _________________

In terms of general advice, I have a few tidbits of info:
For mines:
-Don't sweat them. Yes, they lower your score and lifebar, but there's only a few songs that they will end up killing you outright on. Hitting a few at first is no big deal.
-Remember all of that "Never go back to the center" advice from DDR? Forget it! When you're confronted by a set of mines, pretend that there's an extra step in the center of the pad and place your foot/feet on it instead of an arrow.
-In addition, extending your jumps by holding the bar and/or jumping higher than usual is a GREAT way to avoid mines. This is practically essential on songs with quad-mines thrown into a large stream.
-Song recommendations: Lemmings on the Run Expert, VerTex Hard, Pandemonium Medium
For hands:
-Once again, don't sweat them. Don't make doing handplants a bigger deal than they are.
-COUNT HOW MANY HANDS THERE ARE IN A SONG! On songs like Oasis and Queen of Light (Expert) there are freeze arrow streams that SEEM like they could be hand-plants, but are not. Don't be fooled.
-There are two main types of handplants - freeze arrows followed by handplants, and hand-jumps. You'll encounter the former quite often on Rom-eo & Juliet and Bend Your Mind, while the latter is quite common on Anubis, Queen of Light, and Twilight.
-If worse comes to worst, there's no shame in faking hand-plants. In fact, many experts do it all the time. To fake a hand-plant, stamp down diagonally between two arrows with your foot. This is much easier to accomplish on a dedicab than a DDR convert, but is still achievable on either one.
-Song recommendations: Bend Your Mind Hard, Queen of Light Hard or Expert and Zodiac Expert. When you feel more confident, Bend Your Mind, Anubis, and Twilight on Expert.
Rolls:
-Absolutely, pathetically easy to do. You should have NO trouble with ANY song that has Rolls.
-Although all ITG2 charts with Rolls have them begin with a gallop, the actual formula is that you have to step each foot repeatedly as if they were quarter notes at 200bpm. This rules stand REGARDLESS of the current BPM of the song, which means whether you're hitting a Roll on Renaissance or during Robotix' 1337 bpm section, you will still perform the Roll at 200 bpm.
-Recommended songs: Summer ~Speedy Mix Hard, Renaissance Hard or Expert, and July ~Euromix Hard or Expert.
Hope this helps you! _________________

I always thought that ROM-eo and Juli8 Expert was a great song for getting used to both mines and hands if you were an experienced DDR player. Queen of Light Expert and One False Move Expert also have quite a bit of both, but I'd stay away from them until you feel comfortable with both mines and hands (though once you've got them down, both charts are pretty easy).
For hands, I'd also recommend Bend Your Mind and Twilight (on any difficulty), and Dawn Expert has a lot of hands, but they're all in the same place and their placement makes a lot of sense with the chart.
For mines, Disconnected Mobuis and Fly Away (both Expert) have endings that are great for learning to read mines integrated with regular arrows, and Vertex Hard and to a lesser extent Medium have a lot of mines, though not necessarily ones you need as much effort to dodge. |

Wikipedia wrote: | Scoring
For each judgement, the player receives or loses points depending on the accuracy:
* Fantastic: 5
* Excellent: 4
* Great: 2
* Decent: 0
* Way Off: -6
* Miss: -12
And for holds and rolls:
* Yeah: 5
* Bad: 0
Mines, when hit, deduct 6 points, but otherwise have no effect on score.
These points are divided by the total number of points possible for the song or course to make a percentage. The percentage is shown during play and at the results screen. |
