Help with hands in Stepmania

Sometimes my keyboard just locks up when I try to do a hand in Stepmania. Is it my keyboard, or do I need to download something to let me hit hands? I can sometimes hit freeze arrow ones, but I cant hit and three or four arrow hands. Help is appreciated.

Certain keyboards will not allow you to hit all four arrows or even certain hand combinations at once. For example, my keyboard will only register hands as long as the up arrow isn't pushed down/held down. The same goes with hitting all four arrows at once. It won't register because the up arrow is being pushed down. This problem is not the same with all keyboards. In fact, most keyboards work just fine while hitting hands/quads. Maybe someone else can go into more detail about this issue...

you need to switch the keys you use for stepmania, or get a new keyboard to play with. usually older keyboards are better mapped for multiple presses.

go into options and then configkey/joymappings, you can set it to any keys you want, just try different setups and see what can handle all four keys

Using the numpad with NumLock on, or the WASD key cluster will allow you to perform hands.
