while browsing through lik-sang looking for some import beatmania games, i stumbled upon this "diskjockey" controller for beatmania. I've sort of been looking for another controller, and this one's only $25. I also think the keyboard layout looks a bit more comfortable and easier to use than the official controller. But the only thing that worries me is the price. So i have questions.
1) is it worth it and does it work well?
2) are the keys comfortable and easy to hit?
3) can i reverse it like on the official controller(switch the keypad around)?
4) what the heck is that pedal for?
if you don't know what the controller is, the like is right here.

I reccomend lik-sang because i got my smartjoy adapter in a week on basic shipping and everything worked great. It's a great import site from my experience with it. |

I... really wouldn't recommend it. Sure it may be cheap in the beginning, but once you want to go to the arcade that controller is all wrong for practicing at home.
If you don't already own beatmania US, get the bundle. it's $65USD so it's more expensive than the diskjockey, but its identical to the arcade layout, and reversible, just like its Japanese counterpart. (But unlike its Japanese counterpart, it has a rounded turntable edge instead of a square one, but you won't notice the difference.)

Get a real Konami controller. You'll thank yourself for it. _________________

i have beatmania US and the controller. I want a 2nd one for my friends. And i doubt ill ever play beatmania arcade with in 5 years. I live in perhaps the most arcade starved city in the US(i started dancing when i heard we got DDR extreme, and that was 3 months ago).
And its at a theater. There are no real arcades here. |

So have your friends buy beatmania US. Then they'll have controllers and you won't have to worry about wasting your money on something that's going to break after a few months and then you'll have to buy another one. |

I've got one of those, so I can answer all your questions:
1) It works OK, I guess, but the konami ones are much better. I would honestly spend the extra money and buy the beatmania bundle while you still can.
2) At first, no, but you get used to them. The black ones are actually RAISED, which makes them hard to hit. The keys are also alot more cramped together than the konami one, making the controller about half the length of the official konami controller. But I like that sorta because I find the turntable alot easier to hit with this controller (plus it's not stiff by default like the konami one)
3) No. You have to get used to playing like that.
4) BMIII I believe.
Now, the controller isn't THAT bad, it's got a cool light thing around the turntable and actually has rumble support (although it's strong enough to screw up your playing ) The turntable can sometimes get a bit sensitive, but I think that happens to most lower-end controllers (I have the same issues occasionally with my official konami one.) I can post pictures if you'd like; I've got both the official konami one and the disc jockey.
If you're wondering too, btw, I picked it up at Pacific Mall in markham, ontario but I can't remember for how much. However I don't think they have any anymore. _________________

To be nice...get a konami or dont get one. These are no good
To be HONEST:
This controller is a goddamned wate of money. IT SUCKS. The only use I have for mine is the pedal for my topway drummania controller |
