Well first off guys i'd like to welcome myself back, i probably haven't been around ddrfreak for about 3 years, and im glad to see ddr is still around.

Back when there was my home built metal pad (part 1) i was probably one of the first few to follow the thread, and built my own pad. Despite wear and tear, the pad still works awesomely. However as time went on, i thought i grew out of ddr, traded in my ps2 for an xbox, went to the darkside (aka halo2). Now after a few years away from ddr, i gained back all the weight i lost from doing it.

I am interested in getting an ignition style pad, i heard that the RO3.0 isn't the way to go anymore, and i'm suprised not to see any more organized pros and cons of all the different brands of mats.

Heres my question, do the ignition style pads help cancel any noice of stomping out arrows? Because usually i have my metal pad down in the basement on cement, but bringing it upstairs i shake the house.
In addition to my family home in jersey, i live in an apt in philly so i was hoping that an ignition style mat wouldn't make the neighbors downstairs fear that the building is colapsing.

As i've already built a great working metal pad, i can go without the 'save for a CF.' I am just curious if anyone using ignition pads notice a sound difference. I'm not too worried about ignition pads going bad, because i have built pads from the ground up, and have fixed cheap pads before, and im sure i could make a hard/soft hybrid if the ignition completely died.

I'm thinking about the mymybox 2005 pad because i can't find any bluesharks on ebay, i don't need a double with a ps2 game.

EDIT: hahaha... just saw my lame banner i made 4 years ago. i was so adorable when i was 16. I cant believe ddrfreak still has all that...

Frankly, I don't think anything will keep your downstairs neighbors from hearing you stomping on the floor. I have a third floor apartment and I won't play here; I tried a few times but I got paranoid about the noise and it wasn't enjoyable at all.

The kind of shock absorption you would need to keep it reasonably quiet would be like a mattress and box-springs, and it would be impossible to play on anyway.

I'm moving in a couple of months, and I will definitely hold out for a ground-floor apartment (preferably with hard floors). With the amount of money I have spent at the arcade here (despite owning a perfectly good metal pad), I could have easily bought a second pad for doubles.

This is a really good pad and will absorb your steps...trust me. HOWEVER, mine just crapped out on me after only 3 weeks of play. It's prolly a faulty one and I managed to get a replacement. For now, I still suggest you get this pad.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure that even if you can cancel out the shorter wavelengths, your neighbors will still feel the deepest beats (longest wavelengths). I mean, I can hear it when someone dribbles a basketball on carpet above me. I'm sure that smashing arrows would make a lot more noise. You might just want to find out from your neighbors when would be good times that you can play (i.e., they're not sleeping/concentrating/whatever).
