Yeah, what if they made the US controllers incompatible with the JP versions? 0.o

About that, I asked a friend who works for Konami and said that the USKOC's are compatible w/ the JKOC's. Same keymapping, etc.

Ok, I got the Beatmania demo in PSO today. I was shocked at what I found.

I was able to use my Beatmania KOC controller, but it was remapped! The white keys were shifted, and two of the black keys were in the correct place, but the system didn't recognise scratching correctly, I think the "start" key or one of the black keys scratched.

Everyone said that the JP and USA controllers would be backwards compatible, but I'm not sure about that now. If the final release of Beatmania allows the keys to be remapped, no problem. But for this version, the keymapping is not the same.

So, right now there are a few things possible.
1. This just applies to the demo version
2. DarcLion's source was wrong or lying

I would highly reccomend not blowing the $8 on that magazine for the demo if you have a KOC or an emulator.

It applies to the demo only, dont fret. Next time, try keeping it in the semi-official thread next time.

Sorry, but I felt this was warranted. Plus I'm still highly skeptical to this "only applies to the demo" and "I know someone at KOA" stuff.

Also: only beginner appears to be the only selectable difficulty. Just an FYI.

Oh, go dopple yourself.

>_>

Sorry.

Still, I'm optimistic about the final release.

Demo was only for DualShock play. Don't take it seriously.

I wish I could share your optimism.

But yeah, the demo disc did bitch if you tried running it with the BM controller plugged in, Beatmania didn't complain if you unplugged the dual shock and used the BM controller, but again, the mapping was all f'ed up.

Q: Let's assume that the US version is build on 10th style (I think.) Does the JP version allow for controller remapping regaurdless of whether the person is playing with a Dual Shock, KOC, ASC, or whatever?

*sigh*

It's been long confirmed JP controllers work. THERE'S NO REGION LIMITIATIONS. Developers have even acknowledged beatmania players in the U.S.

One thing to remember is that in most IIDX games, one of the very first things you are asked when you first start the game is: Original Controller, or DualShock? The default keys for Original (KOC) are different than the defaults for DualShock. Now, given that this is a demo disc, and that the KOCs have not been released in this region, what are the odds that anybody has a KOC, apart from those of us that import? Zero. And we're a tiny minority of the audience that disc goes to. So, why confuse them by having the demo ask "Do you have a proper controller with a turntable?" when the answer is going to be a clear "No" in almost every single case?

For us outliers who do have the imported gear, it's annoying, but it makes a lot of sense for them to avoid having some percentage of people pick the wrong option and get even more frustrated because they're trying to use the KOC mapping on a DS.

Ok - the Dual Shock versus origional controller thing does make quite a lot of sense.

-The build is 9th. That was confirmed AGES ago.
-The JPN version can remap buttons for DS2's.
-KOC and ASC share the same button mapping.

I would assume the Pop'n controller mapping mirrors the dualshock mapping and is unhindered by the fact that you can't change the setting.

Whats the problem?
BM US comes with the controller anyway. Unless you want to use the JPN controller to play Double.

The Japanese versions support it too, since the controller has left + right + down tied to ground and the game can detect what it is automatically. Then it just adjusts the button layout accordingly. I can't think of any reason they would have needed to chop that part out of the US version, so the demo ended up being compatible with it too.

The buttons aren't remapped, I don't know why people keep mentioning this.
