Hi guys! Got the US Beatmania Friday, and it's quite good. As it's getting a lot of bad press, I wrote this about it:

I haven't bought the game yet, but there's a game place down the street from where i live and they pretty much let me play whenever i want. I've never played the game before, so the question the arises is "is this a game that you play with 1 hand or 2 (by 1 or 2, meaning excluding the scratch board)." As far as i've heard, you should use 1 hand for the keys, and the other for the scratchboard. The learning curve for this game is very difficult, and don't think that since u know how to play ddr this game is gonna be easy, because i was in for a rude awakening.
The style is hard to get into. My fingers always get tied and i get lost easily, but hey, it's just like when i started playing ddr. I don't like how you can't listen to a preview of a song before you play it, but other than that this game is pretty cool.
To sum it up, think way back when you first started playing ddr, back when you beat a 3 foot song and it was a huge accomplishment. That's how this game is. It's like you're totally relearning how to play ddr, from square one. Have fun. |

As far as how many hands to use while playing, that's personal preference, but most longtime players agree that unless you have remarkable hand dexterity and/or experience with a real musical instrument (most notably a piano/keyboard) you should use both hands to play the keys in beatmania IIDX. You scratch the turtable with your pinky (called a pinky scratch) and use your other fingers to reach as many keys adjacent to the turntable as is comfortable. Use your other hand to handle the remaining keys. _________________
