I recently dug up my old craptastic 1st generation thin sheet third party softpads, which, to my surprise, still work, except 1 pad seems to have shoddy sensors, like, sticky buttons, spaztastic buttons, steps not registering, etc

so I wanna try to mod both pads into pseudo-ignitions

but before I try that, I think I should find some way to fix the sensors on the shot pad

there's no visible physical damage, and I think it's mainly caused by wear and the pad's tendency to bunch up

they seem to have a better rate of working if I just step a little harder and when the song first starts (before it gets bunched up)

so...I'm thinking of sticking something over the buttons to try to fix the sensitivity loss, and was wondering what material is best, or if there's a better alternative

keeping in mind that I'm gonna stick a board under the pad and some velcro under that board to reduce slide, and wrap a tight sheet of plastic on the top side to reduce bunching up...

and, no telling me to get ignitions/metal pads, cuz that's already my plan B if my modding attempt fails =P

thanks in advance

[edit]
for the record, it has no tears (I play with socks on to reduce friction), only minor curls (I stretch the pad out after every song), and no part of the plastic is really thinner than any other part (I only weight 150lb, and am probably one of the lightest stepping ddr players ever)

pretty amazing condition, considering how craptastic these pads are and that I played on them for an average of 2 hours a day for about 8 months straight, after that I played on a friend's ignitions
