hey, i just got the US beatmania and the game rocks, but the songlist is lacking! I'm asking anyone with knowledge of the japanese mixes about a good IIDX mix, preferably on PS2. Also, could you give me sort of a "generalization" on the genre of the songlist? I.E, lots of jpop-jpop. You get the point. Anyways, i always like naoki and jpop songs, so i want the one with silvia drive a lot because i like that song a lot. Which mixes have silvia drive? And if that mix sucks, which mix should i get? Basically, just tell me the best mix and the song list.

I think 9th has silvia drive; but I would definately reccommend either 7th or 10th style. I don't really know the genre in either of them too well, but I know that is has a wide variety, and those are the ones that I play the most out of all 5 of my IIDX games.

First of all, in IIDX they're styles not mixes.

IIDX 7th has a lot of variety from what I've been told.
I also assume that the upcoming RED will have such too.

Generally most people will reccomend 7th through 10th styles. Those seem to be the most popular and recent styles.

Weird, and probably stupid, question: I know RED CS will have the same new songs, but will it have all the old ones the arcade mix does as well, or have earlier CS styles changed up the songlists?

I plan on making that my first import Beatmania version, since I know from arcade experience how awesome it is. (Especially if it has the same huge songlist.)

Or VJArmy's Wiki, which has much less Japanese:

Is IIDX 1-6 bad?

I'm just wondering, because I'm going to start a collection of bemani games. (Of course play em). E13.gif>

konami never made the first two into console games, so the first IIDX ps2 game was 3rd style. 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th are not bad, and theres a lot of people that are very loyal to them.

their interfaces are older, and they dont have some of the options that newer styles have, but they do feature some songs that havent repeated or havent recently.

you may have a tough time finding some of the older styles to purchase though, and if you do, they may be pricey.

10th style totally rocks. Like, it's amazing. and since it's got jelly kiss(my favorite US mix song), i can get rid of my US beatmania mix. Plus it's got love shine and all that good stuff. and i didnt see R2 on there. But there are a few questions i have. Is 10th style like insanely hard? Or is there an easy begginer mode like in the US one? Because im honestly not that good at beatmania(the hardest song i can do is like the cube...on the begginer mode which its a 2 star), because if it is like a lot harder im gonna practice up on US beatmania and get it.

And i'm gonna have to wait a good month to get 10th style. It's not easy being 14 and earning roughly $10 a week....

at least next year im taking japanese so import games will be a little easier to understand. after i get a few beatmania mixes i plan on moving onto pop n music and such.

I know bemani games aren't to text heavy(if there anything like going through DDR jp mixes i shouldn't have too much trouble), but i would kinda like to know what they're saying in all my favorite j-pop songs without having to go on sites and read what it is.

I've gone off topic...i do that a lot. But i just want you to know how much the import-savvy community on DDR freak has really helped me out for a long time. And to think a year ago i thought the only music game was DDR and the other dance games, thought DDR arcade units were easy to get, and was playing on a soft pad hooked up to my xbox and ultramix 1 because i didn't know that the could go download away simfiles and stepmania.

Thanks DDR Freak, and all the people who go on it every day!

It has a beginner mode...but not all the songs have beginner charts...if I'm reading that one Japanese website posted above correctly, 10th's Beginner mode has six 1* songs, twelve 2*'s, and twenty-five 3*'s. (And Silvia Drive is a two-star.) Meaning Beginner mode only covers about half the songs, and half of those are threes.

careful, 10th style has a remix of Jelly Kiss (the same version that is in DDR UM3), not the original.

10th style does have a beginner mode, but, as Armadillo King pointed out, not all songs are in it. I never bothered with beginner mode when i started (having very limited 5 key arcade experience) and i did fine. I think if you just practice a little with beatmania US you wont even have to bother with beginner mode on 10th style.

3rd is the first CS release of IIDX, but no, 3-6 are all good. 3-5 have highspeed problems and less sassy interfaces, but they're still IIDX and they all still have good songs!

Correction: the "style" terminology ended on beatmaniaIIDX 10th style. beatmaniaIIDX 11 - IIDX RED was the first one to have a specific theme on the title. Overall, just call IIDX by its version or series.

Anyway, since you did get beatmania US, I suggest you go get 9th style first since that's where most of the interface and specs are based from. If you're more music-wise, it's either 9th style, 10th style, or wait until IIDX RED gets released.

No, its still popular to call them styles, even to the point of the song "Twelfth Style" to be a song on beatmaniaIIDX 12: Happy Sky.

True, but not all of 'em's gonna call it by that. I'm already used to call IIDX by its version or series.

For Beginners I highly recommend getting 6th style first just to get better.

6th Style fo' life yo! =D
I highly recommend that you purchase this style, if you like eurobeat, this style is by far and away the best, with some great eurobeat classics that were never relisenced or on any other style (Night of Fire, Yesterday, Remember Me, Para Para Paradise...). Its a SUPERB mix!

The only thing about it is that the difficulty levels aren't too representative of what they say they are, with some songs being easier than what number they have and some being WAY harder. But this is such a minor thing in such a brilliant mix =) It's still my most played mix (besides Happy Sky).
