|
|
I attempted to install the r8 patch on our itg2 dedicab this morning. I've installed a patch on this machine before (specifically, r5 about 6 weeks ago) and everything went fine. However, this time, after I installed the update and pressed the green button to restart the machine, the machine attempts to boot, but after many screens of boot text, I get a msg that says something like:
Debian GNU/Linux testing/unstable groove tty1
groove login:
It asks for my groove login for about two seconds, plays the reset.wav sound and restarts. The process seems to repeat indefinitely, though one time I was able to return to game mode and it had ERASED ALL SCORE AND BOOKKEEPING DATA ON THE HARD DRIVE. The machine had reverted back to r2, with factory default settings across the board. Needless to say, I'm flabbergasted. (I tried installing the r8 patch again and now I'm in an infinite loop or machine cycles).
Please respond or call me ASAP - if you happen to get this message this morning, the number at the Rec Room is 217-333-2415.
I await your response. Thanks!
Edit: I can reach the operators menu by pressing and holding the service button as the machine boots. I can edit the factory settings and such but when I exit the ops menu the software version is r2. _________________

Update: pressing and holding the service button during startup somehow fixed this problem. Our high scores are still gone.
Roxor, please respond to my Service Ticket and I'll give you more info about what happened. This was a pretty serious bug . _________________

Update: I can't reboot the machine without pressing and holding the service button. Otherwise, I get that error again and the machine perpetually power cycles. Any ideas as to how this can be remedied? _________________

Update: the service button was sticky on and for some reason the safeguard for performing a factory reset (which happens when the service button is pressed and held during bootup) didn't work. I think that this feature needs a better safeguard, as our high scores are gone because of a sticky service button. _________________

I fixed it. The service button was sticky on, causing the machine to perform a factory reset every time the machine reboots.
I cleaned out the service button and no more problems. _________________

This is why you backup all the high scores to your usb stick from the machine every once in awhile. I mean if you have access to the service button then I am positive you have access to the test mode button which would allow you to copy your machine high scores over to your usb card. In which case if you had done this, you could have put the high scores back onto your machine from your last saved machine to usb card. So yeah, might want to look into doing that. I do it about once every 2 weeks or so. |
