I was trying the workout mode in DDR Extreme. I only played on heavy mode about 15 minutes or so, but it said I burned like, 200 calories! Is that really possible? It seems kind of high to me. Does anyone know exactly how accurate the workout mode calorie counter is? I put my exact weight in too...

i usually dont play workout mode, but the counter doesn't seem that accurate to me. i mean it can be REASONABLY accurate and give you an idea of how many calories you burned, but there's no way that it can be exact.

the game doesn't know how much you're moving when hitting those steps. you can be jumping as high as you can and play using high-knees and the results would most likely be the same as if you flat-footed the song. hell, i can play workout on the controller and it'll say i burned xxxx calories E10.gif others will know more about this than i do, so they can follow up.

The calorie counter is notoriously inaccurate in all DDR games. An hour of DDR playing say 8-9 footers will burn you maybe 400 calories or so. It all depends on your body type and what level you're playing on.

Also depends greatly on how you play. Upper-tier players that play with as little movement as possible (to conserve energy) are not going to burn as many calories as someone who flails with a lot of motion.

Yeah, it's pretty inacurrate. But if you didn't know that you didn't really burn all the calories it said, then you feel pretty good. Too late though.

Workout mode is only really good for quickly unlocking things on MAX1 and 2.

Yes I agree. It takes me around half an hour running on a treadmill (or x-training) to burn 200ish calories and I am way more knackered than I am with the Workout mode telling me I've burnt 200. So yeah I don't believe it at all, I think you can safely halve it and that will be more accurate.

500-600 still is a pretty decent workout (if in fact your workouts are that high) The recommended calorie intake of a person per day is 2000, and approx. 3500 calories consist of a pound of fat. If consume 2000 calories a day and play DDR burning 500 calories a day, that = 3500/week lost, so you'd lose about a pound a week. More if you diet.

Psisar, is 2000 Calories not the amount that a body typically burns in a day in order to sustain its existence?

Approximately, obviously give or take. 2000 calories is about what the average person eats a day.

The minimum number of calories your body burns per day is based on your weight. You can find this (approximate) number by taking your weight and multiplying it by 10. Example, a 140 lb female will burn about 1400 calories per day, excluding all physical activity and such.

Indeed, the calorie counter on DDR is pretty unreliable. Back when I was really into playing at home, I could routinely get the calorie counter past 1,000 in a relatively short period of time, like 1.5 to 2 hours. ITG's calorie counter is so bad it's funny, though. Take a look:

Heh, so I burn 240 calories PER SONG? Whee! And yes, according to the file, during the week of 12/25 I did burn over 10,000 calories in one week. I can only imagine what it'd read if I was doing 10s and 11s instead of 8s and 9s. XD

Ha, yea that's what I was thinking. I find it highly unlikely, as in completely unplausable, that someone could lose a pound in a few hours without it being water weight, waste, etc.

Want a real workout? Do doubles mode E4.gif Really though, you have to factor in your heart rate during the songs, amount of water you're drinking, the temperate that is (it has th expend energy to heat water up to use it) and whether you're twisting your body during the songs. I would think doing a turn would expel more energy than simple double stepping it

The average male consumes 2200 calories a day, by average they mean if you are 5'7 and weigh approx 150-170.

If you weigh lets say 220lbs for instance, doing nothing you will need about 2500 calories.

For all the haters let me just say this Im doing the "ddr" diet. I do 9 footers, and that calorie counter, is DEAD ON, if not BURNING MORE CALORIES THAN WHAT IT STATES.

Im sutre when they created this mode they put into great consideration the variances and took the average step. If you notice, its by step, so what they prolly did is strap a pedometer on someone, thats all it is, a pedometer. For you to say its not accurate? ffs are you stupid.

More than likely this is what they did -- after calculating the average calorie consumption per step they took the LEAST amount and displayed it on the screen. This way you couldnt sue them for it being off, because from a legal standpoint there is no disclaimer saying this is not something to have a nutirtional diet basis off of.

There is a little rule to working out that apparently none of you know. NEVER CHEAT YOURSELF if you slide your feet around the pad without picking up your legs, of course you are burning less calories but YOU know that and its YOUR fault. Or if you stand in the middle and just shimmy your feet outwards cwalk style to tap jumps instead of jumping, guess what you just cheated the game -- if your calories are off its no ones fault but your own.

Oh and for the guy who said whoever conserves for higher level songs -- get some more stamina first of all, secondly your calorie burning rate actually goes up with intensity of steps, so even if you step less high and make less movements, your calorie consumption increases, just like your heartrate, wanna know why? Because its your body working harder to keep oxygen and blood distributed throughout you. Think about that.

I dont mean to sound like a jerk, but some of the posts in this thread are seriously retarded and its very clear you never have done any research on nutrition or working out, and more than likely have never worked out yourselves.

I myself, am an avid exercise enthusiast and wieght liter, and have done tons of reseach on nutrition to know what im talking about. So please, actually post facts or atleast something close to factual speculation instead of just a obsucre inference.

So a 190 lb, 5'2" overweight woman and a 190 lb 5'6" built male input their weight on workout mode. They both FC the song, and the calorie counter says they burned 30 calories. You think that's accurate?

Hate to burst your egotistic bubble, but the DDR calorie counter is most certainly not accurate. Last time I played workout mode I played on endless heavy for an hour, and it said I burned 800ish calories. Riiiiight. Considering running nonstop at 5 MPH burns the average person 500-600 calories, it's only logical to see that playing DDR does not burn as many calories as it tells us.

I've spent the past year researching diet and nutrition consistantly. I think you need to check your sources once more before you make another post like this.

I suggest you take your own advice on that, since it seems it's your theory against the entire population of people who have ever read a DDR calorie counter.
