Okay. So many people are arguing about this that I am going to find out. The point of this thread is to get someone to isolate whatever part in the music that Utopia's beats follow. Then I will have to confirm that the part aligns with the beats and exists in the actual ITG song. If someone could sound edit Utopia to find that rhythm, we can finally end this argument, or at least provide some evidence for other "studies".
THIS IS NOT AN OPINIONS THREAD!
I do not want arguments; I want evidence.
Whether or not this part is sufficiently audible and other arguments can wait.
Other comments are acceptable and appreciated, as long as they are relevant to the subject.

After the last orange arrow on the right foot section, the right foot seems absolutely flawlessly synched with the synths or the "Let's go". However, I have not heard (and believe me, I went to tutorial mode, put on the click and slowed it down with blaring volume) any rhyme or reason for first 5 or 6 steps for your right foot in that section. I've learned to step it pretty well, but honestly, I do it visually. I hear no synchronization for the first part at all.

But like I said, the second half is synched flawlessly.

I can't align a lot of the steps with the synths when slowing down the music or listening it to the correct speed.

But people still pretend they're there. Then again, if you "hear" the synths, chances are you'll "hear" them if the steps were placed even more awkwardly in different spots. It's psychological =\

Good point.
However, I'd still like to see if someone can find the part and actually isolate it or increase its volume to stand out. If anyone has an idea on how to pull this off, post your ideas.
I wonder if Kyle Ward has the music for this song. It might be worth just asking him if any of his music aligns with those controversial beats.

those right arrows are on sync, but they go in and out with different sounds in the music. if you slow the song down you can find it, BUT there are TWO arrows that don't go to anything, or aren't really synced right. Hard to tell really, best bet is to memorize.

Indeed. But that doesn't mean the parts can't be found.
I should really ask Kyle for the sheet music, or something.

Yeah, it's pretty well synched, IMHO.

I think that it is. It's just that people are arguing because it is quite subtle and quiet. It's almost ambient, sort of...

So, would someone like to find that "ambient", "subtle" part or something? You can keep saying that it is synchronized, but it will take some evidence to make a point.

UPDATE: I sent an e-mail to KaW. If he decides to respond, we may get an answer. I would be surprised if no one has tried this before, though.

Left speaker: Has an "in and out" synth beat, they mixed it to the weird akward steps.
Right speaker: More of a less crisp sounding synth. Goes with the orange hold right in the middle, and a few more arrows.

It's a mixture of both.

Then of course, the left-foot-arrows go with the bass.

Then both feet go to both the bass and BOTH synths combined.

Grab some headphones, press them to your ears and listen to it.

EDIT: My proof is the MP3 itself, I can't buy you guys headphones, you need to find this stuff yourself in order to listen to it yourself, I can't help you there.

While I can't really see any reason for that section one question comes to mind.

If these arrows all match up with one sound or another, why is it that they chose to match arrows to sounds that don't seem as audible to the average person?

Probably for originality.
Even sounds that are hard to hear/isolate are registered by the brain. What this means is that the steps would "feel" right/logical on a subconscious level. This would allow the player to get unique steps that still go along with the music.
However, that is total supposition.

On a different note, I have been told that the music program "ACID" has a beat mapping function. Perhaps it could be used to pick out the rhythms.

I can tell you that the gap is absolutely perfect. The weird part has nothing to do with the sync.

That "sound" that the steps go to in that part might have been lost in MP3 compression. Does anyone have his CD to listen to?

CD=Synthsations.
I don't want anyone asking "which one?".

Okay, I got a reply from Kyle. While he doesn't like debating the stepcharts to his songs, he does say that C. Foy was very careful in planning the arrows. C. Foy used several sounds that were caused by effects - for example, multitap delay and reverb.

While this explains what is going on, it might still be nice to get an isolated or separated track.

The steps seem perfectly fine to me.... its just not so immediately obvious. And even if you cant necessarily hear every single sound an arrow might be going to, the steps still "make sense" with the song. I think its a pretty fun chart.
