Which IIDX controller looks better/sturdier? I cannot tell so far but then again neither have been shipped out other than betas and whatnot
I really like the supreme customizations on Ransai, but Desktop Arcade seems to not have as many issues with the buttons, although this only applies to Pop'N.
So far, I cannot tell. (GO SANWA'S KEYS AND LED'S!)
EDIT: No more Ransai discussion in here please. _________________

Allow me to stipulate that, before this thread continues, you must also read this one first. I just happened to see that earlier today, so it was quite apropos. _________________

I wasn't trying to make a "which one should i buy cause I'm too dumb to read" thread, but just to see which is morepopular. Guess this should be locked then? _________________

Nono...believe it or not, we can have perfectly mature and reasonable discussions here. I just basically wanted to make sure that people know that fanboyism is one thing, but I'm not going to take any trolling or flaming.
I think that Random and DumpsterKeeper are of the same mind - being small independent merchants where their customer base is *very* Internet-aware, it's not in their best interests to try to screw anyone. Plus, they're just really cool guys, so if anyone had a problem with a Ransai or a DA controller, the odds are fairly good that they never actually tried to resolve the issue, and just felt like bitching about it.
Depending on how Christmas goes, I'm hoping to acquire one myself over the holiday (lots of family affected by Katrina, so I might not be able to), so it's a discussion I'm definitely personally vested in, but even if that was not the case, it's still a viable topic. _________________

I'd be interested in a discussion as long as it involves several people who have owned/used both in an equal environment... reading through the threads linked at Bemani Style it's kind of hard to come to a decision. I myself may be looking into a IIDX ASC or a Pop'n ASC soon, and just like others who are in a similar situation, want to make an informed decision before buying. |

Bump from beyond hell, sorry
DesktopArcade IIDX decks are now availible, no longer on just preorder. Steve takes the board from a KOC and uses that as the board in his decks, then wires in the TT optics and the types of keys you want and so forth. I'm saving up for mine.
EDIT: Steve also has a "trade up" program, where you can send him your old KOC and he will bump the starting price on your IIDX deck down from $225 to $180. A nice deal if you already have a KOC, but don't go out and buy one just for this
For the record:
DumpsterKeeper wrote: | The moment is HERE! Desktop Arcade is gearing up to release our brand of Arcade Style Controllers for Beatmania IIDX. Our prototypes are in flawless working order, and have been tweaked to what I, not only as a perfectionist woodworker but also as a seasoned IIDX player consider to be perfection. The turntable has the right feel to it, the keys feel great and will not stick during gameplay, and it's all made with high quality birch plywood and bulletproof lexan plexiglass. Not one corner has been cut in the production of these controllers.
Over the past few weeks, I have gone through preparations of readying all preordered (from the order queue in this forum) controllers and have successfully finished, painted and drilled all singles decks that are on the queue, as well as about 20 more singles decks in various other colors. (And a few doubles decks).
Those of you who have followed the progress on Bemanistyle know that I have been teasing an announcement about the release. Well, here it is:
Desktop Arcade will officially be using electronics from Konami Original Controllers (KOC, the small, sticky key controllers) in our IIDX DASCs instead of third party boards, or a homebrew solution. Why are we doing this? Everyone knows that Konami has skilled engineers working for them, and they did a great job in the engineering of the electronics and circuitry of their IIDX controllers; Hell, they even use the KOC boards (with longer wiring) for their ASCs. The turntable is flawless, and does not spaz one bit! (Unlike with the more recent solutions I had been trying for the IIDX DASCs)
The problem with the Konami controllers has never been the circuitry, just the fact that plastic parts are unsatisfactory in the feel and execution of gameplay for the controllers. Konami did a great job with the boards, so why try to beat them?
To help us provide the lowest price for our customers, Desktop Arcade is receiving great help from Andy, the owner of Tokyo Game Action, who will import the Konami controllers for DA. I want to extend a large, *Thank You!* to Andy. Without his help and support, this would be a lot more difficult for me to do, if not impossible.
Save even more with Desktop Arcade's "Trade-up" program!
Desktop Arcade is all about saving our customers money. Until we finalize things with Andy on importing the KOCs in quantity, we will be doing a trade-up program. Send Desktop Arcade your dusty, sticky-key KOC and you will receive for only $180 (Shipping included) a brand new, arcade accurate singles IIDX DASC. Send an email to [email protected] if you are interested in doing this trade-up program, or if you need more information on it. Also email for a price on a trade-up doubles deck. We are ready to produce these controllers NOW, so to be among the first IIDX DASC owners, the trade-up program will be the way to go until we finalize our deal with Andy.
Thanks for reading, I look forward to spending my 2006 building an army of these things (And Pop'n controllers too, of course) for my great customers! |

Wow, that's pretty awesome. I wish he'd PMed one of us so we could've headlined it, but I think we may still. I'll see if anyone wants to take it. _________________
