How many of you are DDRFreaks by home version? I got to heavy through home version and i have only been to the arcade ONCE to play DDR. Therefore I naturally do not use a bar. Im an 8 foot player. If i got something to act as a bar would that up my DDRing ability from 8s to 9-10s? I have an ignition no cobaltflux or afterburner or nothing. I managed to work my way up to standard with a crappy madcatz. then i had to throw it out. Post here if you naturally do not use a bar, are a DDRFreak by home version, scarcely or never went to the arcade for DDR, or have answers to my questions.

I don't live near an arcade so I have only played 6 times at an arcade. I started playing last Christmas and now I can confidently do 9-footers at home. The last two times I went to the arcade I tried the use the bar, the first time it very very unnatural but I forced myself to use it, now it feels ok when I use the bar. I tried using a chair as a bar at home but it didn't work out and it ended falling on the pad half way throught MAXX Unlimited heavy (I still passed). I don't have any of them there fancy metal pads, just my Madcatz soft pad that holds up pretty well for a soft pad.

Madcatz owns Redoctane. RO = shit. My Madcatz has been far more reliable than my Ignition. Anyways, OT.

I learned to play at home, and could pass all 9's before I hit the arcade (I played only at home for about 8 months). The arcade play got a bit of getting used to, but now I go all the time.

YOU LIE.

Really? My Madcatz: giant rip across the bottom from the left side of the pad to the right, had to throw it out. My redoctane ignition: not a scratch. Ive had it since end of school year 2005. You must have taped your madcatz to the floor right? Or put cardboard or grip-tite or something on it right? RIGHT?

Nope. I didn't mod my Madcatz one bit and it lasted me for about 7 or so months playing on heavy for an hour every day. When it crapped out I bought an RO Ignition 3.0, and it died within a month. I bought another Madcatz which is working fine, without any mods, and for shits and giggles today I took out my old Madcatz and it seemed to have ressurected itself. AA'd about a dozen songs with my old one today too.

FWI, I tried to see if the Ignition had done the whole ressurection thing. Nope. Still a $170 foam paperweight. (After CDN conversion and shipping)

Exhibit A: My year old Madcatz which I AA'd un deux trois, Sexy Planet (FNSMM), Infection of Love, Seduction, etc etc earlier. http://psisar.dougnotronik.com/ddrfreak/exhibita.jpg

Exhibit B: My Ignition that lasted nto even a month, in a crumpled heap in the corner where it belongs. http://psisar.dougnotronik.com/ddrfreak/exhibitb.jpg

i very rarely get a chance to go to the arcade (i'm 13) so i was also raised on the home version. my first mix was extreme US and because of that my first 10-footer was LoM (didn't get MAX 2 till quite some time later) which, as i got the other mixes, made 10s a whol lot easier. I still have yet to get a decent grade on PSMO (prolably because i live off of crappy soft pads E2.gif need money!! frust.gif )

I'm definitely a home version DDR freak. I started with Extreme US back in May (now I have all 4 PS2 games). Since then, I've played on 3 different DDR machines, and don't want to play on another. The pads sucked. Maybe they were just poorly maintained, but I found myself failing songs I can FC easily at home (So Deep, for example).

By the way, I started out on an Ignition, which died within 3 weeks. I got another one, and the same thing happened. Now I have 2 CFs.

I'm a home personl. The arcade is too far away for mr to get to. I can't wait for a license.

I started playing for real (other than occasional playing at a friends house, probably a whole three times) on July 6, 2004. I got DDR Max 2 for my birthday. I had asked for Max 1, but the moron at EB had told my dad they didn't sell it anymore (I had seen it a week before my birthday, when I asked for it...). They also got me a madkats soft pad..

The pad held up for quite a while, in fact I purchased another one only two weeks later so I could play with my sister (they didn't work to well for doubles play, they moved around a bit to much). They did slide, but I got used to it. IN fact, if I'm using a soft pad that will actually move (so, not Konami official pads), I can move the pad in the middle of the song to better align myself for steps that are coming up (making it easier to read notes on turns, etc.).

So, anyways, my first pad pooped out later that year. I ended up saving all three, two of which had rip in the bottom (I played on uneven wood tile with some sharp edges). I then started purchasing the gamestop brand, and three pads later (for both PS2 and XBOX) I won't ever purchase them again. Pieces of crap (especially the latest generation....). I then purchased the bundle for Extreme 2. Best decision I made (though I just got out of debt from that two weeks ago...). Anyways, arcade plays were few. It pretty much consisted of when I already was at AMC (but their pads down arrows were both broken, dumb movie theater), GameWorks (Hooray for getting rid of that old 5th mix machine they had... NOT), and Great America, though when I went, they had shut down all of the Extreme Machines, and only three Max 2's (with long lines) were left.

But now I can play 9s farely confidently at home. I get work out pretty easily, but if I'm not worn out already I can usually get an A on a nine (with Extreme's scoring system). Tens are a stretch for me. sakura, not such a big deal. But PSM/O, and the maxes wear me out too fast, and are not fun anyways in my book. At the arcade I suck. I can guarantee I'll pass a 7, 8, and most of the time 9s (not you, Cartoon Heroes!), but an A is a stretch, I am not used to having to metal pads.

BTW, I pulled out one of my madkats pads last night (now about a year and five months old) to play some multiplayer with my sister. I had to duct tape it to the floor (we had just put up our christmas tree and there was NO room to slide), but it worked great. I AA'd a few songs, then started playing on reverse (I'm training myself to read reverse before Beatmania comes around) for fun.

So anyways, arcades? Who cares? I don't. I have 9 DDR/ITG games, Stepmania, and will soon be getting UM3... Why should I ever need to go spend more money at the arcade. I could drive just as far and be at my friend Aly's house... she has metal pads (I don't know what kind though.....).

O, and bar messes me up. It's not as fun, but when I make those bouts around TLOM at the arcade (on standard, I think the steps are fun on standard, and I'd die on heavy) I use the bar. I think it looks dumb to do fast songs without the bar. You look like a moron up there trying to keep your balance.

That guy is crazy. And insanely good. I'd like to see some arcade vids of him sometime, but his home ones are still cool.

I play at home on a soft pad ^^ I suck in the arcade lol. It's Greats galore for me there, and songs I would normally A I get like Cs on.

I guess it's one of those "gotta get used to it" things, but I don't go enough anyway so there's really no point.

I've never really used a bar [or anything as a bar] before . . . I'm up to 8 footers right now, and I can do *one* 9 with speed mods which everyone says should be an 8 [My Summer Love]

At this point.. should I try using something as a bar and see if it helps me? Or should I just keep going into 9s without using anything? Does using a bar make it easier?

I forgot to mention in my last post that my first Ignition was a 3.0 and my second one was a 2.0. Both broke pretty quickly. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I'm glad I went with CF anyway.

I agree, he's amazing. What really impresses me are his vids of his Xenon AAA and 3 greats on MaxX (both without the chair). And to think he's only been playing since January...

Oh, and he recently updated his filefront site. There's a vid of him playing PSMO at the arcade.

I am both -

Having a cobalt flux ( www.cobaltflux.com ) makes it a hell of a lot easier to be a freak - a - leek at home.

However, i prefer the arcade. I love me the crowds.
