start in middle of song

How do I start in the middle of a song in stepmania? Like in my DDR PC training mode, you can start in the middle and practice particular parts of the song.

The only way to do this in Stepmania is to use the song editor ("Edit/Sync Songs" on the title menu of the default theme) to select a section of a song.

Alright this is an update to my very old last question - so what do you do when there's a particular part of the song you have to work on? Stepcharts only help so much. Eg. be loving, towards the end alternates jumps and steps, the rest is a joke...

Press Space at the beginning of the part that you wanna practice on and press space at the end of the part that you wanna practice on and you have a red, highlighted area. Stepmania will only play what's inside the red.

hey that's pretty cool. Any way to play that selection slower, by slowing down the song and steps in sync (as when playing the song x.9, x.8? and assist tick in the edit mode too?

Yeah, just press Escape and pick "Song Options" from the menu that comes up.
