I just did a sheet-metal mod on my RO Afterburner yesterday. Everything seemed alright at first but after a few songs, I noticed that the left arrow wasn't responding well. I was getting 2 or 3 "boo's" with it on about half the songs I played. Same goes with my Up arrow but not as frequent.

I assumed I put the sheet metal on half-assed, so I replaced the old pieces and put a new, fresh ones and used a scouring pad to clean the copper circuits. Still had the same problem though. Left and Up arrows weren't registering 100% of the time.

I never had a problem with my Afterburner registering steps before, so I assume that the mod is causing this and that there isn't anything internally wrong with the pad. Has anyone else who did a sheet metal mod on their pad experienced this before? Does it take a while to break the pad in after doing the mod or does it sound like something is wrong?

I don't own an Afterburner, but did you check the wiring?

I concur - I helped a friend with a similar problem on his metal pad (I think it was a TX model) last week. After removing the plexi screws to try and fix a sticking panel problem, the panel stopped working, even when re-screwed in. However, a little nosing about revealed that one of the wires under a rubber cover wasn't soldered on all that well and and broken free. So, the intermittent hits were because pressing down sometimes touched the wire to the solder blob and sometimes didn't. Once the plexi was removed, the wire moved away from the solder completely. Thus, properly soldering the wire back onto the blob saved the day.

So I'd say that you should check your wiring, lifting up rubber squares if necessary. If the Afterburner's a model where the plexi panel has a wire soldered to it, you may want to replace that wire as well (check connectivity with a multimeter.)

Looks like you're right, Heffen. It's a problem with the wiring. I put one of my old, cracked arrows back on the spot that was giving me problems and it was still messed up. I don't know jack about wiring and soldering though, so I'm just going to ship it back to RO and they can deal with it.

It's going to suck waiting for a replacement but I guess I'll just pick up PIU and play that in the meantime. frown.gif
